Decade Later, Same Director: SEAL Team’s Beau Knapp Talks Reuniting with Boreanaz

SEAL Team Season 7 features a secret Bones reunion, with the new cast reacting to reuniting with star David Boreanaz. SEAL Team Season 7, the show’s final season, is happening via weekly releases on Paramount+. The release schedule has given viewers a chance to see the twists and turns of the action drama as it nears its finish line. That includes bringing Boreanaz back together with an actor he once directed.

In an interview with TV Insider, Beau Knapp reacted to joining SEAL Team Season 7 and reuniting with Boreanaz, who executive produced the show and starred as Jason Hayes. Knapp plays Drew Franklin, the newest member of the Bravo team, and he spoke candidly about working with Boreanaz again after the Buffy alum directed Knapp in the Bones season 8 finale. Read his full quote below:

It was a trip. It was 2013. It was a wild time. Like 2011, I was 21. I had my first child and I was just a young, hungry actor. That was all I knew how to do. Super 8 was my first job, the J.J. Abrams movie. And then I’m pretty sure Bones was the second thing I ever did, but it was wild at the beginning because David Boreanaz was directing that finale and so I went in the room and read for David across from him. Just like I did with SEAL Team—going into the room reading was with David just sitting across from me.

It was a great experience and I think that was one of the first conversations we had when I walked into the room for SEAL Team testing. David and I started talking about 10 years ago or whatever, 11, 12 years and it went by so fast, but it was great to work together again. But yeah, even then, it was playing a villain. It was fun. I think that was my first experience with TV and how different it is from doing movies. It’s crazy to see that. I looked like a kid when I was shooting Bones compared to now. I’m so grateful.

Who did Beau Knapp play on Bones?

Knapp appeared in “The Secret in the Siege,” the season 8 finale of Bones. Boreanaz directed the episode, and Stephen Nathan and Jonathan Collier wrote the script. Knapp plays Zane Reyonds in this episode, his only appearance, and Reynolds is a suspect in a larger plot involving Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds). The episode aired in 2013 when Knapp was in his early 20s.

Over a decade later and having had a positive experience working with Borenaz before, Knapp joins the cast of SEAL Team as Drew Franklin. The character is a high-ranking officer with a troubled past. His arrival at Bravo isn’t exactly a smooth transition, given Drew’s status as a problem child and his tendency to always seek advantage for himself.

It’s no secret that SEAL Team has been undergoing a roster shakeup following the departure of Max Thieriot. The team has done a good job of moving forward, thanks to Knapp’s positive history working with Boreanaz. This is a good asset to have going into the final stretch of the long-running action series.
