Did Colter’s Brother Kill Their Father? Jensen Ackles Makes His ‘Tracker’ Debut as Family Mystery Deepens
Colter’s estranged brother Russell may not be quite so estranged anymore.
As it turns out, Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) is actually pretty well-adjusted compared to his brother Russell (Jensen Ackles). Ackles made his debut on the hit CBS drama this week as Colter finally got to come face-to-face with his estranged older brother who may or may not have been responsible for their dad’s death. The episode, titled “Off the Books,” got down to the family stuff right off the bat. Russell showed up at Colter’s trailer unexpectedly, and they sat around a fire while Russell promised he didn’t push their father off a cliff. Either he fell or someone else pushed him, but there was definitely another man in the woods that night who Russell had seen before, talking to their mom.
Mom then told Russell to leave and never tell anyone what he saw because their lives depended on it, so he took off and joined the military while Mom convinced Colter that it was Russell who killed Dad for some reason. That, unfortunately, is a mystery for another time, because Russell has actually sought out Colter because Doug, one of his old military buddies, is missing. The two men now work together at a super shady private contracting firm called Horizon, and the more Colter learns about Horizon, the more concerned he gets.
Russell isn’t actually such a fan of Colter’s work either, and he takes a very different approach to it. His attempts to flirt with a morgue receptionist failed horribly, despite that being Dean Winchester’s go-to move. He also bailed on Colter before they could even get Doug back to his wife, and Colter suspected he was up to nothing good or legal.
The brotherly reunion ended a tad too soon for anyone hoping for real answers about this messed up family, but at least it now seems that Russell is no longer quite as estranged as he once was. Maybe there really is a family reunion in the cards now that Colter has patched things up with both his brother and his sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh). Hopefully their mother will also attend that reunion, because she most certainly has some explaining to do.
