Did Fuller House Season 3 Really Film In Japan?

In Fuller House season 3, did the show really film scenes in Japan? Netflix’s Full House spin-off premiered in 2016 and ran for five seasons. Most of the core cast from the original sitcom returned for the offshoot, including Steve Hale (Scott Weinger) who was intrinsic to the story as Fuller House primarily focused on DJ (Candace Cameron-Bure), his widowed high school sweetheart.

Unlike Full House which was about the kids, Fuller House centered its storytelling on its adult casts such as DJ, Stephanie (Jodie Sweeting), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber). Aside from their relationship with their children, most of their respective arcs were about their love lives. For DJ, that meant reuniting with her Full House boyfriend, Steve. Before they finally got together, however, Steve was engaged to be married to CJ (Virginia Williams). In fact, the pair almost got married at a destination wedding in Japan.

Since DJ and Steve maintained a good relationship in Fuller House, the full extended Tanner family was invited to the event in season 3. In the episode titled “My Best Friend’s Japanese Wedding,” the Fuller House cast was seen sightseeing as tourists before the actual festivities. As it turns out, Netflix did fly the whole Fuller House ensemble to Japan for the special occasion. Cameron-Bure, who was also a producer of the Full House sequel spin-off promoted on her social media a special behind-the-scenes look at the cast filming abroad in 2017. For what it’s worth, Full House did have some out-of-town-set episodes, most famously the one where the whole family went on vacation at Disneyland. That being said, the original series’ trips never went international as its spin-off had.
Although the main reason for its Japan-set episode was to attend the wedding of Steve and CJ, whose step-dad has ties to the Yakuza, Fuller House made the most of it by incorporating some fun side trips. Like a real-life clan on vacation, the cast hit some of the country’s best tourist spots including the Sanrio Puroland theme park (AKA Hello Kitty Land) and the famous Shibuya Crossing. Aside from Fuller House’s DJ, Steve, and CJ love triangle, Ramona (Nicole Bringas) also had her own whirlwind romance in Fuller House’s Japan-set episode in season 3. After getting heartbreakingly dumped by Jackson’s (Michael Campion) friend, Bobby Popko (Isaak Presley), she met Marius Yo from the real-life band SexyZone and started a brief affair with the Japanese idol before eventually breaking up.

How Old Full House's Main Cast Were Compared To Fuller House
Fuller House only had one Japan-set episode, but it was an interesting way to connect to Full House which also had special ties with the country. It’s worth remembering that Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) became so famous in the country decades ago that he even brought his family there for a visit. Unfortunately, the Tanners’ favorite rockstar wasn’t part of the offshoot’s trip to Japan; it would have been great to see if his popularity endured there after all of these years.
