Disappointed by the One Chicago Break? Here’s When the Drama Returns

There’s a reason why One Chicago didn’t air new episodes on April 30. The hiatus was disappointing, especially considering that it was just one of several short pauses like this the series has taken in recent weeks. Additionally, the episodes ended at an interesting point, making it all the more frustrating that they didn’t air this week. Chicago Med season 10 ended with Sharon and Maggie on opposite sides of an impending nurses’ strike, which would have been a powerful storyline that would have tested their friendship. This was followed by Severide investigating an old arson case involving Kidd from Chicago Fire.

As the episode ended, Natalie, a fire victim from years ago, told Severide that she suspected her sister of starting the fire. Meanwhile, Mouch asks Hermann to pursue Pascal’s case. Chicago PD season 12 finally delivered a Cook-focused episode, in which Cook tackles a CI for the first time. Unfortunately, the hiatus means viewers will have to wait to see what happens next in each of these storylines.

Why There’s No New One Chicago Episode Tonight (April 30, 2025)
One Chicago will air reruns instead of new episodes on April 30. Specifically, NBC will air episode 6 from the show’s respective years. Since the premieres aired on the same week, it’s unlikely that these reruns will have any bearing on what happens next. Instead, One Chicago will give viewers a chance to catch up by offering reruns of these episodes before continuing with new episodes the following week.

However, it’s no surprise that the series will air reruns tonight. Typically, shows will go on a short hiatus in late April or early May. This practice ensures that the network has enough episodes to air until mid-May, when TV series typically wrap up their seasons for the summer.

When will new episodes of Chicago Fire, PD, and Med be released?

Luckily, the hiatus is very short. New episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will air on May 7, 2025, meaning viewers will only have to wait another week to find out what happens next on each show. It’s likely that there will be no more hiatus, and the shows will continue to air new episodes weekly until the end of their seasons.

The one-week hiatus is disappointing, but it also allows viewers to catch up on any episodes they missed during the season. NBC only airs one rerun of each series, but all episodes that have already aired on TV are available to stream on Peacock. Previous seasons are also available for those who want to revisit their favorite episodes, so it’s pretty easy to catch up or rewatch any episode before the series returns with all new episodes in early May.

What to Expect from Upcoming Episodes of Chicago Fire, PD, and Med Episodes

All three shows in the Chicago will begin wrapping up for the summer when they return, which means that they will have exciting stories that lead to cliffhangers. Chicago Med will pick up where it left off with the nurses’ strike story. A sick-out leaves the hospital extremely short-staffed, but that won’t stop Archer and Frost from betting on who can discharge their patient first, in what is sure to be a more light-hearted story.

Chicago Fire season 13, episode 20 will combine personal and professional storylines. Kidd and Severide are supposed to bond with the mother of the baby they are hoping to adopt, while at the same time, a performance efficiency expert will evaluate Firehouse 51. This evaluation could be a problem for Pascal, especially considering how short-staffed the firehouse is and Mouch’s suggestion that Herrmann try for his job.

Finally, Chicago PD will round out the One Chicago trilogy with what is anticipated to be one of its darkest cases. When Ruzek witnesses what appears to be a tragic car accident, the investigation leads Intelligence to uncover a sex trafficking ring. This disturbing case could tie into the corruption Reid has engaged in while claiming he’s keeping the streets safer.
