Donnie Wahlberg has teased there could be numerous Blue Bloods stars joining him in the upcoming Boston Blue.
Blue Bloods became a staple for CBS viewers over its 14-year stint with fans gripped to the family-focused police drama.
As well as delving into the nitty gritty investigations, the series also revolved around the personal matters of the Reagans with everything mulled over at their weekly Sunday dinners at Frank Reagan’s (played by Tom Selleck) house.
The season 14 renewal was bittersweet though as CBS announced this would be the final series, with Blue Bloods airing for the last time in October 2024.
But there is good news as it was revealed earlier this year that actor Donnie Wahlberg would be reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan in the spin-off Boston Blue.
The upcoming drama will follow Danny as he leaves NYPD and takes a job with the Boston Police Department following the series finale.
However, fans of the original drama are now eager to know if there will be any familiar faces from Blue Bloods in the spin-off, with Wahlberg teasing some potential casting.
Joe Hill (Will Hochman), Frank’s grandson who was initially introduced in season 10, could be one of the characters making his way to Boston Blue.
Wahlberg took to the comments section on Instagram, tagging in his former co-star as he wrote: “My guy – counting on you to come visit your uncle on screen!”
To this, Hochman jokingly wrote: “I’m fuelling up the Chevelle as we speak!”
A fan also remarked: “Hope we see Baez on this journey”, with Wahlberg fuelling the fire by simply replying with a winking emoji.
Danny and his partner Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) had a ‘flirtationship’ for years with the finale teasing romance as he asked her out for dinner, leaving fans wondering what their future will look like.
So if Baez is going to show up in Boston Blue, will she and Danny finally get together?
A fellow Blue Bloods fan had doubts about the spin-off, sharing: “Far fetched. He’d never leave his family”, to which Wahlberg cheekily replied: “Who said he is?”
Following on from this, a second commented: “I wish it was the entire family that’s what [makes] Blue Blood work not just one character”, with him once again teasing: “Tune in”, with a winking emoji.
The 55-year-old also shared his hopes of actor Will Estes, who was behind Jameson ‘Jamie’ Reagan, coming to join him on Boston Blue, writing on Instagram: “He’d better come visit his big brother”.
Actress Vanessa Ray also opened up to TV Insider about her interest in once again playing Eddie Janko-Reagan.
When questioned if she would want to appear in the Blue Bloods spin-off, Ray said: “I would do anything with these people.
“So, yes, of course. I don’t know what world it would make sense for Eddie to be in a spinoff at all.”
She then joked: “But if they need to put me in a wig and dye my eyebrows and I’ll play a different character just so I get to hang out with all of them more, then I’ll do it.”
