It’s official: CBS has confirmed that Donnie Wahlberg will be starring in a Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue. The network hasn’t revealed many details about the series, but a new teaser has been released, and the star is answering some burning questions from fans.
In Boston Blue, Donnie will reprise his role as Danny Reagan, but the detective is moving away from New York City (and his family) for a new job in Boston. Danny will team up with Detective Lena Peters, who is the daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Her role has not yet been cast.
Donnie shared the first look at Boston Blue on his Instagram account, and it is…brief. The short clip just gives a few glimpses of the actor in character and announces that the series will debut in the fall.
Fans in the comments section had some big questions about the new show, and Donnie answered what he could.
Will Hochman, who starred alongside Donnie as Joe Hill, commented “Legendary! 👑👑👑” and Donnie replied, “my guy – counting on you to come visit your uncle on screen! 💙❤️”
A fan said, “So excited for you and the new show!! And maybe some cameos 👀👩🏻⚕️!! #LFG #BB 💙💙💙” and he responded, “🫡💙”
Another Blue Bloods fan said, “Tell me Jamie is coming with you” and Donnie said, “he’d better come visit his big brother. ❤️”
One person asked, “Will this be a Friday night thing as well?? 💙💙” and he answered, “tbd.”
Another commenter said, “I wish it was the entire family that’s what made blue blood work not just 1 character” and Donnie responded, “tune in. 😉”
CBS will release their complete fall schedule on May 7. We’ll be on the lookout for more details about Boston Blue until then!
