Donnie Wahlberg is ‘All for’ a Blue Bloods Spinoff as Final Episodes Air

The beloved CBS drama Blue Bloods is entering its final chapter with the last eight episodes airing starting Friday, October 18. However, rumors of a spinoff have surfaced since the announcement of the show’s cancellation, keeping hope alive for fans who don’t want to say goodbye just yet.

The speculation began in June when Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted at the potential for a spinoff during a shareholders meeting. CBS Studios President David Stapf echoed this sentiment in July, suggesting that the Blue Bloods universe could continue beyond its final season. While nothing is officially in development, the idea has already excited fans—and cast members like Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Detective Danny Reagan.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Wahlberg shared his thoughts on the possibility of a spinoff and made it clear that he’s on board with the idea.

“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, all types of concepts,” Wahlberg said. “For me personally, I’d say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and the care that we put into it every week, I’d be all for it.”

Wahlberg emphasized that whatever direction the potential spinoff takes, whether it’s a prequel, sequel, or something entirely different, he believes that it should preserve the core themes of Blue Bloods, particularly its focus on family.
“I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it,” Wahlberg continued. “For me, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, I’m all for it.”

For now, Wahlberg is focused on making sure the final episodes of the series are enjoyed by fans. He plans to engage with viewers on social media as they watch the last episodes together each Friday.

“There’s a final season still to air, and I’m looking forward to watching those episodes with all my incredible fans and tweeting with them every Friday night. After that, we’ll see what happens next,” Wahlberg said. “If there’s a way to extend Blue Bloods, then great. But right now, my priority is enjoying the last eight episodes with the fans.”

While the future of a Blue Bloods spinoff remains uncertain, the excitement surrounding the possibility suggests that the Reagan family’s story might not be over just yet. For fans who have been loyal for over a decade, the hope of a continuation is an enticing prospect.
