As BLUE BLOODS draws to a close, star Donnie Wahlberg is looking back on some of Danny Reagan’s best moments.
In an interview with TV Insider, Wahlberg first mentioned a Season 4 moment where Erin was held hostage and Danny came to save her, which the actor called “one of the coolest moments” for his character.
“Scary, dangerous, intense, all that you would expect in a situation like that,” he continued. “But for me, I think what really made it special is how much that moment really resonated with the audience, that they loved that the Reagans had a plan for a circumstance like that and getting a chance to see it play out.”
Wahlberg also touched on the death of Danny’s wife, Linda.
“In the episodes that followed, I learned that it wasn’t just Danny that lost Linda,” he explained. “Donnie lost Amy [Carlson, who played Linda]. She was such a great scene partner, and these scenes where we would be rushing the kids out to school or to practice or whatever it was, she did so many little things like her character that she really was my other half in the show…When she was gone, I noticed her loss in more ways than I ever imagined.”
Wahlberg and the rest of the BLUE BLOODS cast have been open about their feelings about the end of the show.
In an interview with Variety, Wahlberg and co-star Tom Selleck spoke about the show’s surprise cancellation.
“I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, due to 10 episodes a year. But I’m not the boss,” Selleck said. “Everybody wanted to come back. And I think with this cast, it would have been a gift for the audience. I don’t make those decisions. I’m prepared to celebrate and commemorate this show, but I’m still getting used to it.”
Wahlberg has also shared details from the last day on set, telling TV Insider, there were “a lot of tears.”
“My final day was in the squad room where Danny and Baez filmed most of their scenes and Tom Selleck doesn’t come to the squad room ever — I don’t think he’s ever been in the squad room — but he came that day to watch us film the last day of the show,” Wahlberg said. “And seeing him there and seeing the emotions on his face, just it, yeah, turned on the waterworks for me.”
