As Blue Bloods approaches its final episodes, longtime star Donnie Wahlberg shared some exciting updates and heartfelt reflections on the series, teasing a finale that will resonate deeply with fans. In a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine, Wahlberg promised, “The final episode will make a lot of people smile — that’s all I’m saying — and cry, but also smile.” He added that he feels “incredibly grateful” for his 14-year journey as Detective Danny Reagan and is optimistic about the show’s legacy continuing in some form.
When asked about potential Blue Bloods spinoffs, Wahlberg revealed that there’s been plenty of speculation and discussion, telling TV Insider, “There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs…all types of concepts.” He expressed his enthusiasm for any project that honors the “spirit of Blue Bloods and the care” that’s defined the show, saying, “If it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods…it would be something I’d look forward to watching or being a part of.”
Wahlberg mentioned that various ideas have been considered, from sequels to prequels, and hinted that the final episode would answer long-standing questions for fans. “There are a lot of questions…that I think will be answered if not teased in a way that will give you answers for where people’s lives may go in the future,” he explained.
Reflecting on the emotional moments behind the scenes, Wahlberg recalled a particularly touching memory with his on-screen father, Tom Selleck. On the last day of shooting, Selleck, who typically doesn’t visit the squad room set, came by to support his co-stars, which left Wahlberg in tears. “Seeing him there and seeing the emotion on his face…turned on the waterworks for me,” Wahlberg shared with TV Insider. He described filming the final family dinner as “probably the single most emotional day on the Blue Bloods set in the history of the entire show.”
For fans, Wahlberg’s words suggest a deeply satisfying conclusion to the beloved series, and potentially even more stories in the Blue Bloods universe to look forward to.
