The New England-based detective spinoff of CBS’ “Blue Bloods” is coming out next month.
Not too long after the cast was seen filming on Boston Common, the new television show, “Boston Blue,” starring Donnie Wahlberg, will be watched on TV screens throughout the nation.
Wahlberg will reprise his role as detective Danny Reagan, who finds his place in Boston after working in New York City in the original show.
The Dorchester-born actor and former New Kids on the Block band member also serves as an executive producer of “Boston Blue.”

‘Boston Blue’ cast members
Wahlberg will star alongside Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Lena Silver, a Boston police detective and the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family, CBS said.
CBS had previously announced the character’s name as Lena Peters, before it was ultimately changed.
In addition, Gloria Reuben plays Boston district attorney Mae Silver, and Maggie Lawson portrays police superintendent Sarah Silver.
Other cast members include Marcus Scribner as rookie cop Jonah Silver, Ernie Hudson as renowned pastor Reverend Edwin Peters, and Mika Amonsen as Reagan’s son Sean.
The series is directed by Anthony Hemingway, who is known for directing several episodes of “Shameless” and “CSI: NY.”
Premise of the ‘Boston Blue’ series premiere
In the “Boston Blue” series premiere, NYPD-turned-BPD detective Reagan teams up with Boston detective Silver to investigate a deadly fire at a local tech company, according to CBS.
“As they dig deeper, they uncover a complex web of secrets involving facial recognition technology, family ties, and a search for justice that brings the Silver and Reagan families closer together,” CBS said in a statement.
“Boston Blue” is expected to pick up where “Blue Bloods” left off in the December 2024 season finale.
When ‘Boston Blue’ is set to air
“Boston Blue” is set to premiere on Friday, Oct. 17, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. It’ll fill the time slot formerly filled by “Blue Bloods.”
Each episode will be available to stream on Paramount+ the day after it airs.
