Donnie Wahlberg recently revealed that his wife, Jenny McCarthy, has a favorite Blue Bloods episode that he considers one of his least favorites.
During a PaleyFest panel for the CBS series, Wahlberg recalled a funny moment from when he and McCarthy first started dating. She mentioned how much she loved the Season 3 episode titled “Greener Grass,” which Wahlberg wasn’t particularly fond of at the time.
“When I began dating my wife, [series writer] Dan Truly’s episode aired,” Wahlberg shared. “In this episode, Danny is offered a job as a personal security guard, which means leaving the police department. I thought, ‘Who’s going to hire me? I’m five foot nine!’”
In this 2012 episode, Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, is presented with a lucrative job protecting one of his sister Erin’s (Bridget Moynahan) witnesses. Wahlberg found the premise unrealistic but noted that Truly was confident it would resonate with viewers.
“So, I thought, ‘Oh, that episode,’” he said. “It drove me crazy.”
That was until McCarthy expressed her fondness for it. “When I started dating Jenny, she told me, ‘I’ve seen a lot of your show,’” Wahlberg recounted. “Then she said, ‘You know what I really love? That episode where you got the job offer to be a personal assistant. That’s my favorite!’”
Turning to Truly, who was present at the event, Wahlberg jokingly added, “So thanks, Dan. You really helped seal the deal!”
The couple met in 2012 and married two years later in 2014. While McCarthy has never appeared on the show, she is considered part of the Blue Bloods family and is known to call Wahlberg between takes during the iconic Reagan family dinner scenes.
“She’s like an extra person at the family dinner,” Wahlberg’s co-star Bridget Moynahan said on The Drew Barrymore Show in April. “The phone is always there, and in between takes, it’s like, ‘Hi, honey,’ ‘Hi, honey,’ and we’re all like, ‘Jenny!’ So she’s always around.”
