Watch The Action-Packed First Trailer For Highly Anticipated “Yellowstone” Spinoff, “Lawmen: Bass Reeves”
The first trailer for one of the most-anticipated new shows of the year is finally here!
This week, Paramount+ released a nearly two-minute look at Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the latest project from the brilliant mind of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.
The eight-episode limited series follows David Oyelowo as the title character and the “untold story” of his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi.
“Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family,” the official logline teases.
“My goal, hope, and ambition for this has always been to have an opportunity to contextualize the contribution of Black people to this country in a way that colors outside of the lines of what we have normally seen,” Oyelowo told Digital Spy.
“This [story] is one of empowerment, and he takes that power and he uses it for the good of his community and his country. And that’s really what I hope people are left with at the end of the show,” he continued. “He was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life at an extraordinary time in America’s history.”
Filmed in Texas, Lawmen: Bass Reeves boasts a cast full of Hollywood heavy hitters including Barry Pepper, Dennis Quaid, Garrett Hedlund, Donald Sutherland, Mo Brings Plenty, Forrest Goodluck, Lauren E. Banks, and Grantham Coleman.
The gunslinging period drama, originally slated as a standalone series for Paramount+, shifted to an anthology format in April. Subsequent seasons will reportedly follow other legendary lawmen throughout history.
Sheridan is an executive producer along with Oyelowo, David C. Glasser, and series creator Chad Feehan.
The first two episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves will premiere on Paramount+ on November 5.
