‘Elsbeth’ Makes a Bold Move: CBS Submits Fan-Favorite Series as a Comedy for the 2026 Emmys md18

The show’s third season has been officially submitted in the comedy category instead of drama.

Elsbeth is leaning into its funny side.

Gold Derby has learned that the CBS series is moving from drama to the comedy categories for the upcoming fall-winter awards cycle, including the SAG Awards and Golden Globes, as well as the 2026 Emmys.

In the series, Carrie Preston portrays Elsbeth Tascioni — a delightfully unpredictable attorney. The character first appeared more than 15 years ago as a recurring role on The Good Wife, evolving into a fan-favorite performance that continued on The Good Fight before leading into her own CBS series.

The show has featured a lineup of comedic guest stars, including Tracey Ullman, Pamela Adlon, Laurie Metcalf, and Matthew Broderick. Stephen Colbert will next appear on the series as a fictional late-night talk show host.

“I love Elsbeth’s curiosity and her wonder and her positive attitude,” Preston told Gold Derby. “It takes discipline to approach the world that way. It’s infectious. I love getting inside of that mindset every day because it really helps me in my life.”
