
CBS continues to build up on its female-led show Elsbeth with new cast announcements for Season 3.
Elsbeth is led by Carrie Preston who plays the titular character Elsbeth Tascioni. She’s plays a lawyer who follows the age-old plotline of helping the police catch criminals with her unique techniques and observations.
Season 2 of Elsbeth saw her being sprung from jail, new allies being formed, and Carra Patterson’s Kaya Blanke leaving the precinct to join an undercover task force. Luckily for fans of the actress will see her return in a limited capacity for Season 2, as confirmed by Deadline.
In the meantime, Season 3 is continued to add to its guest star lineup after the announcement that Stephen Colbert will playing Scotty Bristol, the host of a popular late-night talk show called Way Late. It’s been confirmed that Amy Sedaris, Lindsay Mendez, and Andy Richter will be joining Season 3 during the premiere episode on October 12, 2025.
Sedaris is best known for her roles in Elf and Strangers with Candy. She’ll be playing Laurel Hammond-Muntz, “the headstrong and devoted head writers and executive producer” Way Late. Richter (Late Night with Conan O’Brien) will play Mickey Muntz, Laurel’s husband and the sidekick to the host of the show. And Mendez (American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez) will play Officer Grace Hackett, a cop and aspiring comedian whose interesting help Elsbeth during a case in the comedy world.
Across 2 seasons, Elsbeth has had plenty of A-listers as guest stars. In the premiere episode they had Stephen Moyer, who used to star with Preston in True Blood. Jane Krakowski, best known for 30 Rock, played a high-end real estate broker. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, best known for Modern Family, was basically a fictionalized Andy Cohen.
Elsbeth also had other guest stars like Retta (Parks and Rec), Blair Underwood (Longlegs), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Keegan-Michael Key (Schmigadoon!), Elizabeth Lail (YOU), Nathan Lane (The Gilded Age), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious franchise) and Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty). And even surprisingly enough, Michael Emerson, who is Preston’s real-life husband guest-starred in Elsbeth.
So at this point, expect even more star power when the show returns for Season 3 on October 12th at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
