That includes the three series regulars – Carrie Preston as quirky investigator Elsbeth Tascioni, Wendell Pierce as police captain Charles Wallace, and Carra Patterson as police officer-turned-detective Kaya Blanke – plus 22 famous guest stars who made an impact during the show’s sophomore year.
Preston, a former guest actress Emmy winner (2013) for playing this same character on The Good Wife, will campaign in Best Drama Actress. Pierce and Patterson are seeking their first career Emmy bids, and are entering the respective races for Best Drama Supporting Actor and Best Drama Supporting Actress.
Several big names and award winners are among the guest stars being submitted. Who’s the Boss? and Charmed star Alyssa Milano plays Lisette “Pupetta” Del Ponte, the owner of a restaurant embroiled in murder. Two-time Emmy winner Michael Emerson (The Practice, Lost), who’s married to Preston in real life, has the recurring role of a corrupt judge named Milton Crawford. And seven-time Emmy champion Tracey Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show, Love & War, Tracey Takes On, Ally McBeal) plays celebrity psychic Marilyn Gladwell.
Other Primetime Emmy winners looking for another trophy for their mantels include Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) as talent agent Kidder Hawes, Nathan Lane (Only Murders in the Building) as opera lover Phillip Cross, Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) as health guru Tom Murphy, Pamela Adlon (King of the Hill) as chef Genevieve Hale, Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne, Hacks) as TV actress Regina Coburn, and Mary-Louise Parker (Angels in America) as professional organizer Freya Frostad.
Per the Gold Derby odds, Preston is in eighth place for Best Drama Actress, while Elsbeth is in the Top 25 for Best Drama Series. The guest races will be added to our predictions center in the coming weeks. “I started playing this character 14 years ago, and never would have dreamt that it would have led to a show called Elsbeth. So, every day is definitely a gift,” Preston recently told Gold Derby.
