Elsbeth star Ben Levi Ross has teased how the inclusion of the titular character’s son will change up the rest of season 2 with new intrigue involved. Ross arrived on the cast of Elsbeth as the titular character’s son, Teddy, in season 2, episode 6, “Gold, Frankincense, and Murder,” where he arrives to visit his mother at the end of the episode. He continues to show up in season 2, episode 7, “One Angry Woman,” where it’s revealed he came to New York out of worry for his mother, meaning he’ll be taking up a larger residence moving forward.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Ross teased that Teddy’s inclusion during Elsbeth season 2 will change up how the rest of the upcoming episodes play out. The actor explains how the lead character being in a family scenario will challenge her, while also offering deeper insight into why she left Chicago for New York. It also means more character-driven storylines that see her and her son interacting more often. Check out what Ross had to say below:
I think like we have yet to really see Elsbeth in a family dynamic on this show. So that’s really, I think, the thing that’s exciting about when you’re doing a more procedural show and then it kind of takes a hard left and becomes a little bit more character driven. So I think that that’s really what Teddy provides. In addition to just being a new character that people get to sort of live with and grow with and see what’s going on with him, he’s really a catalyst for us to see Elsbeth as a mother and get to know a little bit more about why she left Chicago and why she’s staying in New York. I think that that’s just like an exciting thing that differs from season one and any other time we’ve seen her in previous shows.
What Ross’ Statement Means For Teddy In Elsbeth Season 2
He’s Going To Be An Important Anchor For The Lead Character
Ross’ arrival on Elsbeth isn’t going to be a one-and-done appearance, it seems, with him potentially having a prominent role for the rest of season 2. He’s already made a good impression on his mother’s team within the NYPD, who all knew a lot about him prior to his arrival. It appears the buildup to him being on the show is going to be reflected in a lengthy stay, something that can further develop his character now that he has a physical presence. It also means more unconventional approaches to the show’s procedural format, as the actor indicated.
Since Teddy is going to be around for the long-haul, it’s unclear for now just how involved he’s going to be in his mother’s work. The young man is only visiting, so it doesn’t sound like he’ll be wrapped up too much in the cases that she’s investigating. However, even if his stay doesn’t extend into a potential Elsbeth season 3, his appearance for moral support could mean a deeper exploration of the show’s main character. Her son offers an alternate lens by which she can be viewed, helping to strengthen her development through his introduction.
Our Take On Teddy’s Introduction In Elsbeth Season 2
He Can Help Ground Future Storytelling In Family Ties
If Teddy becomes a prominent character for the rest of Elsbeth season 2, then his interactions with his mother can lead to important, altered dynamics across the series. While there’s no evidence to suggest he’ll get directly involved in her future investigations, the line between her personal and professional life could be blurred thanks to her son now entering the picture. With plenty of different possibilities the show can embrace with his presence, Ross’ statement indicates plenty more to come from his character.
