Following the passing of longtime Days of Our Lives star Drake Hogestyn, whose portrayal of John Black defined one of the soaps most iconic couples, some fans wondered whether Marlena Evans Black’s romantic future had come to an end. In an new interview with Woman’s World, Deidre Hall addressed whether she believes Marlena will find love again.
At the soaps 60th anniversary celebration in early November, Days of Our Lives hosted a special red carpet honoring the milestone. While speaking with Women’s World at the event, Hall reflected on her decades on the soap, including working alongside her twin sister Andrea Hall and navigating Marlena’s onscreen love life.
When asked directly about Marlena’s future, Hall told Woman’s World, “I think Marlena will love again.”
Hall noted that she doesn’t know who Marlena may eventually be paired with, adding, “That’s up to casting, and our writers.”
Still, the actress expressed confidence in the creative team, saying, “They’re so good at this. They’re also smart enough to know that’s a big ask, to find somebody for Marlena.”
Hall acknowledged that any future pairing will face high expectations, noting, “John and Marlena are iconic.”
Hall admits that her next pairing is going to have to truly be something amazing, adding, “So there has to be magic. There has to be undeniable chemistry.”
The actress recently shared her favorite supercouple from Days of Our Lives history, sharing with Swooon, “I didn’t understand about couples on soaps when I first started on Days [of our Lives]. Shortly after I joined the show, [Doug and Julie] were being married on the show.”
She added that fan excitement around the on-screen wedding was undeniable. “Fans had come to the parking lot of the studio to see it. I soon realized that this is really a thing!” Hall said.
Hall also expressed her admiration for Susan Seaforth Hayes, recalling how gracious the actress was during the lengthy wedding shoot. “I adore Susan. In that moment, I didn’t know her. It took a long time to shoot the scenes. At one point, she turned to all of us in the pews and said, ‘I know it’s taking a long time. Thank you for your patience.’ She was carrying the whole hour! What a woman. I love her.”
