As NCIS: Los Angeles nears its series finale after 14 successful seasons, Eric Christian Olsen, who portrayed the lovable Deeks, has opened up about his final days on set and the emotional farewell he shared with his co-stars. Reflecting on the journey, Olsen shared how he delivered a heartfelt speech during his last scene, speaking about the fulfillment of telling 324 stories and the dream of being part of such a long-running show. His emotions fluctuated between gratitude and sadness, as the ending of the series came as a surprise to both fans and cast members alike.
In addition to the emotional farewells, Olsen took home a couple of iconic Deeks-related items as mementos from his character’s 14-year journey. He revealed that he grabbed a set of Deeks’ dumbbells, a piece of his character’s regular workout routine, and a jacket that Deeks often wore. These items are now cherished memorabilia from the show, marking the end of his time on NCIS: Los Angeles.
As the actor adjusts to life after NCIS: LA, Olsen has already made a change by sporting a much shorter haircut than Deeks’ signature long locks. He admitted that he’s looking forward to cutting his hair even shorter in the future, noting that fans will likely miss the long hair but it’s time for a new look.
Olsen is now focusing on new projects, including his role as an executive producer for the upcoming Matlock reboot, starring Kathy Bates. Though his acting career is still in full swing, Olsen hinted that he might explore writing for the new series but isn’t sure yet if he’ll pen any episodes.
For NCIS: Los Angeles fans, the two-part series finale will air on May 14 and May 21, 2023, giving them one last chance to see Deeks and the rest of the OSP team in action.
