Veteran actor Ernie Hudson, widely recognized for his iconic role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, has officially joined the cast of Boston Blue, CBS’s upcoming spin-off of the long-running hit series Blue Bloods.
Hudson will portray Reverend Peters, a Baptist minister and the patriarch of a family rooted in Boston’s law enforcement. Described as an open-hearted, community-oriented leader, Peters is expected to be a guiding presence akin to Henry Reagan, played by Len Cariou in Blue Bloods.
The spin-off centers on Detective Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg), who transfers to the Boston Police Department and partners with Detective Lena Silver (portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green), Reverend Peters’ niece. The Silver family, deeply embedded in the city’s policing community, promises to bring fresh perspectives and intricate family dynamics to the series.
Known for his extensive career spanning film and television, Hudson’s credits include Oz, The Crow, Miss Congeniality, and more recently Quantum Leap. His addition to Boston Blue is expected to enrich the series with his charismatic and authoritative presence.
Boston Blue is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2025, airing at 10 PM on Fridays, a time slot previously occupied by Blue Bloods for 14 seasons. With a stellar cast and a compelling premise, the show aims to capture the legacy of its predecessor while offering a fresh narrative angle.
