Chicago Med star Brian Tee explains how he would want his character, Ethan Choi, to return to the medical drama, revealing his pitch for a possible reprisal of the role. Tee played the Chief of Emergency Medicine from season 1 of the medical drama and was an important part of the show from the start. He left the series at the end of season 8, and it doesn’t seem like he’ll be coming back in the forthcoming Chicago Med season 10.
Speaking with TVLine, though, Tee explained how he could return to Chicago Med in the future, pitching an idea for how Dr. Choi could come back. The actor said that, if he were to return, he would want to do so during an event that would bring back other major characters who have since left the show. Check out what Tee had to say below:
There’s always conversation [about] returning on screen…. It’s interesting. I think, every season, Chicago Med goes through a bit of a flux, but I get to come back, and I play with all the cast and the crew on the director side of things. So we’ll always start that conversation, and if the right time or the right storyline comes along, maybe it might happen. So it’s kind of one of those things that you never say goodbye to.
I think probably the hospital needs help. Some kind of tragedy is about to happen, some kind of major catastrophe drama, and maybe they bring back myself and Will Halstead [played by Nick Gehlfuss] and [Ethan’s wife] April [played by Yaya DaCosta] and bring back some of the old crew to kind of fix things to what it was.
That would be my next thing. It’s not quite on the docket yet. I mean, it’s on the docket for me, hopefully. So we’ll see. Everyone there, as far as P.D. and Fire , are doing incredible work. And I know it’s a lot harder to shoot because they shoot outside. Us on Chicago Med get to be indoors most of the time. So that will be much more of an adventure as far as my directing is concerned.
Could Brain Tee Return As Ethan Choi In Chicago Med Season 10?
An Imminent Return Doesn’t Seem Likely
Choi’s departure at the end of season 8 saw him leave to start a mobile clinic, helping his wife, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) assist those in poverty. His selfless decision means he’s unlikely to come back to the show anytime soon, as doing so would mean he’d be taking a role at the hospital once again. However, Tee’s pitch for how he could return would make for an interesting episode, one that references the number of Chicago Med cast members that helped build the show from the very beginning.
However, as of writing, it doesn’t seem like Tee nor any other major cast members are going to be coming back to the medical drama anytime soon. The One Chicago show renewals are likely to focus on ongoing storylines, including those of Chicago Med and its current main cast. While seeing Choi come back for a special episode is possible in the future, it doesn’t seem like it will happen in season 10. It also seems the idea would require other stars to return, something that would need ample coordination in order to tackle.
However, despite the specificity of how Tee could return to Chicago Med, such an episode is within the realm of possibility, even if it wouldn’t happen very soon. Given that the actor has directed episodes of the series since his departure, he would clearly be open to coming back if the story he was given looked right for Choi. If his return also included other stars, then it would end up being one of the show’s biggest special episodes ever made.
