Chicago Fire loves its weddings. The show has produced several beloved couples over the years, and some disliked ones, as we’ve detailed, but only a select few have made it to the esteemed level of being husband and wife.
Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) are the latest Chicago Fire stalwarts to tie the knot, and we they did not disappoint. Despite some logistical issues, the couple delivered with an episode for the ages.
Here’s what we think of all the Chicago Fire weddings that have happened (on screen) thus far.
6. Chloe Allen and Joe Cruz
Chloe Allen (Kristen Gutoskie) Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) are a great couple. They’re charming, they’re funny, and they have two adorable sons. The way the met was also charming. Their wedding? Meh, could have been better. The Allen/Cruz ceremony felt a little bit rushed when it finally happened in season 5.
For one, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) being Chloe’s maid of honor felt a bit forced, but secondly, Chloe’s parents weren’t even in attendance. The wedding felt a bit too much like a precursor to the Stellaride and Brettsey weddings that would follow, which is a shame because the Cruzes deserved more.
5. Gabriela Dawson and Matt Casey
Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Matt Casey were not a bad pairing in the moment, but the more time passes, and the more it becomes clear that Casey was meant to be with Brett, the more odd the Dawson/Casey wedding feels.
The season 5 wedding took place at the last minute, in front of a courthouse judge, and neither party was dressed for the occasion. To add even more retroactive awkwardness to the mix, Brett was one of the few 51 members in attendance!
We think the second time might be the charm with Casey, no disrespect to Dawson.
4. Donna Robbins and Wallace Boden
One of the earliest weddings on Chicago Fire was also one of the best. Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) is not one for theatrics, but he couldn’t escape the grand gesture of the rest of the 51 team in season 2, as they set up a beautiful makeshift venue at the firehouse.
Herrmann (David Eigenberg) was the best man, the groomsmen were all decked out in their 51 attire, and the decision to mute the exchange of vows, and simply have the music playing over the smiling faces of both Mr. and Mrs. Boden (Melissa Ponzio) was inspired.
An underrated wedding in the show’s history.
3. Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide
The road to marriage was not always the smoothest for Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Kidd went on the road for much longer than intended, and failed to keep in touch with Severide until she got back (unannounced). They even questioned whether they should still get married when she returned.
We’re glad they did, though, because this season 10 ceremony was a great one. The entire 51 team were on a ship, and the editing intercuts between Kidd and Severide talking as newlyweds, with the crucial moments from their past.
It’s tough to watch without getting overwhelmed with emotion, which is what’s supposed to happen at weddings! Well done, Chicago Fire.
2. Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey
They did it! After years of romantic back-and-forth, coupled with a season 11 break-up, Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey made it across the finish line. The season 12 episode “Port in the Storm” delivered on what fans wanted to see, which was heartfelt moments between a Chicago Fire cast that’s getting increasingly harder to get in one place.
There was some last-minute drama involving the best man, Severide, who thankfully made it, and even an unexpected cameo from Brett’s half-sister. Really, what the Brettsey wedding did was remind the fans how much these medics and firefighters feel like family at the end of the day. Nicely done.
1. Trudy Platt and Mouch
Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) and Mouch (Christian Stolte) are simply irresistible. They are the crux of the coolest One Chicago crossover, between Chicago PD and Chicago Fire, and they were inarguably the most relatable of all the characters in the minutes leading up to their wedding in season 4.
The wedding ceremony itself is understated, but that’s the beauty of the Platt and Mouch bond: they don’t have to do much to win us over. Plus, the rest of the 51 team is in rare form at this wedding, and it’s fun to see the hijinks and flirtations that would eventually lead to some of the other weddings on this list!
