Every Upcoming Yellowstone Project Explained (1944, The Madison & Beyond)

The Yellowstone franchise began with the iconic TV show in 2018. Five seasons later, the show’s success has inspired many spin-offs. So far, the 1883 and 1923 prequels have been released, with excited reactions from the fandom. These shows follow the beginnings of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and the tragedy that has always befallen the Dutton family as they fight to protect their land.

Following the conclusion of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount have collaborated to expand the concept known as the Sheridanverse. There are five spin-offs officially being developed, with 1944 continuing the prequel timeline, The Madison adding a new family to the Montana conflict, and three shows following the characters from Yellowstone after the events from the last episode. The Yellowstone franchise promises to be the most extensive and popular neo-Western project of all time.

After the ending of Yellowstone, Paramount announced that another spin-off from the franchise was on its way. Initially named 2024, the show eventually changed its name to The Madison. Unlike the other TV series in this universe, The Madison will be the first sequel to the original show, and it will also be the first series not directly associated with the Duttons, which makes it an interesting take on the Taylor Sheridan Universe and, hopefully, will frame neo-Western through another lens. However, fans can still expect the Duttons to make an appearance, given the impact of the family in the ranching world of Montana. The Madison will be set in Montana, but it will follow the McIntosh family, who move from New York City to the Madison River valley (which obviously explains the title of the show). Taylor Sheridan described the story as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection,” which is very much the axis of every Yellowstone show. However, it will obviously be different, as this family doesn’t have a century-old legacy in the cowboy business, so it is likely they will see the characters adapt to a new lifestyle.

There are several cast members officially announced for The Madison: Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, and Beau Garrett will have some of the most protagonic roles. At first, rumors circulated about Matthew McConaughey joining the cast, but so far, it doesn’t seem like the actor will be a part of The Madison. Michelle Pfeiffer, on the other hand, is already confirmed to lead the series, and she is also part of the project as an executive producer. Although there is a lot of information about this Yellowstone spin-off, no announcement has confirmed the release date.

Y: Marshals Turns Beloved Cowboy Kayce Dutton into a U.S. Marshal

Releasing on the CBS division of the Paramount Skydance Corporation, Y: Marshal will follow Kayce Dutton (reprised by Luke Grimes) after the ending of Yellowstone. While the show’s finale sees him happily living in a small part of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch after selling most of it to the Reservation, in this new show, Kayce will join the U.S. Marshals. As Yellowstone fans might remember, Kayce was a former Navy SEAL, and he often used his skills in his role as Livestock Commissioner. While it seemed like Kayce had left that life behind, it’s evident that, as a Cowboy and as a SEAL, he has what it takes to bring justice to Montana.

The official announcement describes that U.S. Marshal Kayce and some of his colleagues will have to “balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense.” Obviously, this means that Kayce will go through some challenges with his family, Monica and Tate. However, Monica’s actress, Kelsey Asbille, has not been confirmed among the cast for Y: Marshal, but Brecken Merrill’s Tate will definitely be there. Other important characters from Yellowstone that will also appear in the spin-off are Gil Birmingham’s Chief Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty’s Mo, which means the show will continue discussing Native American social politics.

1944 Will Continue Spencer Dutton’s Storyline After 1923

While the Yellowstone franchise will be releasing several sequel spin-offs, it will continue the prequel storyline that started in 18831944 will be the show that continues 20 years after theevents of 1923. There is not much information about the spin-off. Still, it will likely feature an older Spencer Dutton (one of the few survivors from 1923) and the adult son that Alexandra gave birth to before passing, who is likely John II, the father of Kevin Costner’s John. Because of the date, it will probably also touch on World War II, primarily as background, much like World War I is mentioned in 1923.

Cast members haven’t been confirmed yet, but fans hope Brandon Sklenar will reprise the role. Fans know he won’t die in the 20 years between each spin-off because 1923 ends with a narration saying that he dies at around 80 years old. Sklenar could easily play the character 21 years later, as he would only go from 34 to 55, so he would only need a little bit of makeup. But, well, only time will tell.

6666 Will Add Real Life History to the Yellowstone Tradition

After 4 Years, There Is Still No New Information on the 6666 Spin-Off

Back in 2021, Paramount announced that the network and Taylor Sheridan were working on a new Yellowstone project called 6666. The name of the show comes from The Four Sixes Ranch, a real-life iconic ranch in King County, Texas, that Taylor Sheridan partly owns. The ranch has already appeared in the last two seasons of Yellowstone, with Jefferson White’s character going to work over there.

Paramount’s Description of the 6666 Spin-Off

There isn’t a lot of information on this spin-off either, despite being announced so long ago. However, since Jimmy moved to the 6666 permanently with his wife Emily, a vet technician at the ranch, the show will likely revolve around these two characters. The 6666 ranch was an essential place for Jimmy to grow up, find confidence, and become a true cowboy. This would mean that both Jefferson and Kathryn Kelly could potentially make a comeback in the Yellowstone sequel. Either way, fans are excited to see a new cowboy setting from Taylor Sheridan and see how the climate (natural, social, and political) in Texas changes everything for the cowboy lifestyle.

Sheridan Has Talked About a Possible 1960s Yellowstone Spin-Off

No official announcement has been made by Paramount or Taylor Sheridan about a prequel spin-off set in the 1960s. However, in 2022, Deadline reported that Sheridan was considering two limited series prequels, one set in the 1940s and the other in the 1960s, which sparked significant interest among fans. The 1944 series has already been announced, but the fact that one around the 1960s isn’t confirmed yet doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. Both Sheridan and the network probably want to see how 1944 goes before making any confirmations about yet another prequel.

There is plenty of material for Sheridan to follow the Dutton family during the 1960s. This is a significant decade in terms of cultural development, and the show could see how the Duttons hold on to their values (the good and the bad) in the face of a rapidly changing world. Since John was born in 1959, the show set in the late 60s could showcase his childhood and his relationship with his father, explaining how he became the man viewers met in Yellowstone. However, all is in the air for now.

Dutton Ranch Will Follow Beth and Rip Post Yellowstone

As everyone knows, at the end of Yellowstone, Beth and Rip are happily together and move to a smaller land Beth purchased near Dillon, Montana. Paramount has announced that Beth and Rip will have their own spin-off, with the temporary working title Dutton Ranch. For fans of the original Yellowstone series, this is the most exciting spin-off as it continues right where the show left off.

Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly are, of course, officially joining the cast to reprise their roles as Rip and Beth. Finn Little will also come back as Carter, as it seems that Beth and Rip will continue raising their son/not-son. Maybe this spin-off will make his adoption more official. Iconic actress Annette Bening, known for several accolades, will play Beulah Jackson, the head of a Texas ranch. Ed Harris will also make an appearance as Everett McKinney, an affable veterinarian.
