Which actors were in the Everybody Loves Raymond cast and who did they play in the long-running ‘90s sitcom?
CBS comedy series Everybody Loves Raymond is the brainchild of actor-comedian Ray Romano and producer Phil Rosenthal and takes inspiration from both of their lives. Romano stars as Italian-American everyman Ray, a husband and father who lives with his family in suburban Long Island in annoyingly close proximity to his overbearing mother and stubborn father.
Everybody Loves Raymond aired for nine seasons on CBS between 1996 and 2005 and won a host of accolades during that time, including 15 Primetime Emmys and a Screen Actors Guild Award. The show has also been adapted in countries including Russia, Italy and Poland and has been listed as one of the best sitcoms of all time by the likes of Rolling Stone and Paste Magazine.
One major reason why Everybody Loves Raymond is such a beloved sitcom is because of its talented comic ensemble. Read on for a guide to the Everybody Loves Raymond cast and the characters they play.
Everybody Loves Raymond Cast & Characters
Everybody Loves Raymond cast
Ray Romano – Ray Barone
Ray Romano tops the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond as its titular protagonist Ray Barone – a sportswriter who lives with his wife Debra and their kids (daughter Ally and twin boys Michael and Geoffrey) in the suburbs of Long Island. The sitcom helped launch Romano’s acting career and he’s since had starring roles in the Ice Age movie franchise and shows including Men Of A Certain Age and Made For Love.
Patricia Heaton – Debra Barone
Patricia Heaton plays Ray’s long-suffering wife Debra Barone – a stay-at-home mom who is frequently frustrated by Ray’s immaturity and her intrusive, overly critical mother-in-law. After Everybody Loves Raymond came to an end, Heaton returned to the sitcom game with a main role as Frankie Heck in The Middle, a show that reunited her with Romano when he guest-starred in its third season.
Doris Roberts – Marie Barone
Ray’s meddling mother Marie Barone is an over-bearing, nosy character who favors Ray over his older brother and often criticizes her daughter-in-law’s cooking and cleaning skills. She’s played by veteran actress Doris Roberts who sadly passed away in 2016. Beyond Everybody Loves Raymond, Roberts is best known for playing Mildred Krebs in Remington Steele and – like Romano – she also had a guest-starring role on The Middle.
Peter Boyle – Frank Barone
Ray’s retired father Frank Barone is a stubborn, brutally honest man whose love-hate relationship with his wife is one of the funniest things about Everybody Loves Raymond. Frank is played by the late, great Peter Boyle who amassed many acting credits during his decade-spanning career. Outside of Everybody Loves Raymond, he’s probably best known for his hilarious turn as The Monster in Young Frankenstein.
Brad Garrett – Robert Barone
Brad Garrett rounds out the main Everybody Loves Raymond cast as Ray’s hangdog older brother Robert – an NYPD officer who is often envious of Ray’s life and their mother’s favoritism towards him. Garrett has appeared in lots of other TV shows since Everybody Loves Raymond including the sitcoms Til Death and Single Parents and season 2 of Fargo.
