The hit CBS series since 1996 beat out “Desperate Housewives” at the 57th Television Drama Awards, held on September 18 in Los Angeles, USA, to win the award for “Outstanding Comedy Series.” This was the biggest surprise of this year’s Emmy Awards.
Everybody Loves Raymond also won Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Brad Garrett and Doris Roberts). After a 9-year run on television and deciding to end this year, the show has won 12 Emmys. This is a rare TV show in the past 30 years to be awarded an award for outstanding achievement and special popularity.
Desperate Housewives (ABC) received 15 nominations and did not go home empty-handed. Felicity Huffman won Best Actress and Briton Charles McDougall was named Best Director . The show’s five sexy stars, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Nicolette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria, took the stage to accept their awards to ease public opinion about their feud over the show’s sponsorship deals.
Another ABC series, Lost, won the award for Outstanding Drama Series . It was a huge hit for the channel last year.
