“Everyone’s in Danger”: Will Trent Director Warns of Explosive, Virus-Fueled Season 3 Finale

ABC’s smash-hit procedural drama Will Trent is about to lay its third season to rest, with an upcoming finale titled “Listening to a Heartbeat” bringing a chaotic, life-threatening virus to the city of Atlanta, all whilst Ramon Rodriguez’s titular Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) detective faces demons from his past. The episode promises to be one of the most pulsating of the entire show thus far, with no expense spared in the ending of perhaps the best season of the procedural to date.

“Unleashed by a domestic terrorist group, a mysterious biological attack runs rampage in Atlanta,” the synopsis begins, suggesting Will and co might be about to face their most tricky problem yet. “As Will and his team race to contain the threat and save countless lives, he’s forced to confront the complex dynamics of his own family,” the synopsis then concludes, with the drama surrounding Will’s biological father taking another twist. Speaking to TVLine, Will Trent director Erika Christensen teased the upcoming finale, promising that fans should be “very worried” about the fate of their favorite characters, saying:

“They should be very worried. We uncover through the finale how easily communicable and how fast-acting this bioweapon is. Everyone’s in danger, especially if they’re in the hospital, stuck with all these people who’ve already been infected, so they’re all at great risk.”

‘Will Trent’ Will Return for Season 4

Although worrying about the lives of fan-favorite characters is apparently advised heading into the Season 3 finale, Will Trent fans need not fear for the protagonist, with the show officially renewed for ABC’s 2025-26 primetime lineup. Alongside the likes of 9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Abbott Elementary, and High Potential, the hit ABC series’ future was never truly in doubt, but with the announcement made, fans can look ahead to the future with both certainty and anticipation.

The upcoming finale is likely to set the wheels in motion for Season 4, with potential series-shattering events in the upcoming episode likely to have consequences in the future. However, it was a previous episode that gave fans their best taste of what’s to come so far, with Episode 17, “Why Hello, Sheriff,” introducing viewers to Severance star Yul Vazquez’s Sheriff Caleb, a villain reported to be returning in Season 4 of the show.
