Sweet news is on the horizon—Virgin River has officially been renewed for Season 7! This means we’ll get to continue following the heartwarming tales of our favorite small-town residents in Northern California, especially as Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) navigate the next chapter of their relationship.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith shared with Tudum, “There’s a lot more to explore with these characters.”
With Season 6 premiering on December 19, viewers can expect to witness the buildup to Mel and Jack’s long-awaited wedding—the true “Royal Wedding” of their close-knit community. “We’re just starting to see how Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is thrilling,” Smith notes. Season 7 will delve into their honeymoon phase as they build their life on the farm, complete with its own unique challenges.
Though Mel and Jack are embracing married life, they’ll still face hurdles together. But fans need not worry about their bond. “I can’t imagine a scenario where Mel and Jack break up,” Smith insists. “It allows us to dig deeper into their relationship issues while keeping it romantic. Alex and Martin bring so much emotion to those moments, focusing on the stakes rather than the will-they-won’t-they dynamic.”
There are also plenty of other relationships to explore, from Hope (Annette O’Toole) and Doc (Tim Matheson), who have reignited their romance after some time apart, to Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia (Kandyse McClure), who united during a community crisis, and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Denny (Kai Bradbury), who are preparing for their first child together.
Smith emphasizes the importance of portraying love stories at different life stages, particularly with Hope and Doc: “It’s something television rarely does unless it’s for comedic effect. The chance to develop these characters feels truly special.”
As for when we can expect Season 7? Well, we’ll have to wait for Season 6 to debut first! Stay tuned to Tudum for updates—we promise to keep you posted!
