Pretty much anything but actual words spout out of the mouths of The Rookie‘s cast, in TVLine’s exclusive look at a new blooper reel for the light ABC procedural.
Ahead of The Rookie‘s Season 7 premiere, the show has been trickling out a series of gag reels, each with a different theme. Thus far, cast members Nathan Fillion, Eric Winter, Alyssa Diaz and Richard T. Jones have shared “lowlight” reels via Instagram. Next up, TVLine presents the “Police Chatter” round-up, in which all manner of noises (and even some musical notes) get blurted out in place of un-remembered lines.
Check out our exclusive blooper reel above, and then keep an eye on cast member Melissa O’Neil’s Instagram on Monday, Dec. 2, for a brand-new batch of boo-boos and blunders.
The Rookie Season 7 (finally!) premieres Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10/9c, with all 18 episodes airing almost without a break — save for maybe one week, to accommodate a presidential address.
Coming off a strikes-shortened season of just 10 episodes that largely revolved around mayhem made by villainess Monica Stevens, showrunner Alexi Hawley told TVLine he foresees Season 7 as being “more of a standalone show with serialized elements, because it’s going to be a longer season and I think people really do like that. Also, there are the many different ways we tell stories — whether it’s the big event-type episodes, the more rom-com episodes, or with a big guest star — so it’ll be fun to go back to that.”
Early into filming Season 7, Alyssa Diaz (who plays Angela) and co-stars Mekia Cox (Nyla) and Melissa O’Neil (Lucy Chen) shared that the upcoming episodes will “delve into relationships a lot more” — though that will include “some bumpy roads,” Diaz warned.
Take for example — of course — #Chenford aka Lucy and Tim, who have been on quite a break since the middle of last season.
As showrunner Hawley put it, Tim is “not done with the work he’s got to do. Lucy doesn’t fully trust him now, so there’s a lot of trust that needs to be re-earned, and it can’t just happen in a few weeks. But I like that we really faced [Tim’s issues] head-on and it was really based on something organic.”
