In the enchanting world of Virgin River, viewers are drawn into a heartwarming tale filled with romance and valuable life lessons. Meet the vibrant cast: a beautiful nurse practitioner with a troubled past, a rugged bartender carrying his own secrets, and a well-meaning but meddlesome mayor. But it’s not just the characters that captivate; the breathtaking backdrop of Virgin River—a stunning array of interiors, lush forests, sparkling waterfalls, and majestic mountain vistas—becomes a character in its own right, drawing us back week after week.
You might be wondering: where is this picturesque Virgin River filmed? While the series is set in Northern California, the actual filming takes place in the stunning landscapes of Vancouver, British Columbia, and its surrounding mountains.
Behind this captivating scenery is W. Robert “Fluffy” Millar, a seasoned location manager and scout. Since 1997, he’s been instrumental in securing memorable spots for numerous films and series, including A Dog’s Way Home, Shooter, and the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, all shot in Vancouver.
“Living in B.C., I’m constantly inspired by the incredible locations,” Millar shared during a 2022 interview on the Virgin River set. “With geo-tagging on our phones, I can easily capture stunning spots and revisit them when needed.”
While filming Season 5, Millar opened up about the challenges of capturing the beauty of British Columbia, especially when working on the steep slopes of mountains. He also shared a dramatic moment when the crew discovered that Mel’s cabin—one of the series’ iconic locations—was actually sinking into the ground, adding another layer of intrigue to the show’s captivating environment.
