Big news for Bridgerton fans. Less than a week after the official wrap of the upcoming Bridgerton Season 4, one star is teasing that there could be more coming from the Bridgerton universe. In 2023, Netflix released the prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, that followed Queen Charlotte’s arranged marriage to King George III. While it’s been implied in the past that the prequel was meant to be a limited series, that may no longer be the case. When speaking at the Italian Global Series Festival, Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh didn’t deny a second season for the prequel series when asked, according to Deadline, but didn’t reveal any details either. Instead, Andoh took time to praise the creator of both shows: Shonda Rhimes. “What Shonda Rhimes does rather brilliantly is she says, ‘What if?’. You throw a stone into the pond, and see what ripples come from that.” She goes on to explain that neither show rewrites history. “It amplified a history that already existed.”
“When you saw the history of that period – regency representations with no people of color in, that was rewriting history.”
What Is Next for ‘Bridgerton’?
While the Ton anxiously awaits the possibility of a Queen Charlotte Season 2, fans are looking ahead to 2026, which is when we can expect Bridgerton Season 4. Adapted from the third Bridgerton book, An Offer From a Gentleman, it will feature Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton as the leading man. Joining him is Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek in the Cinderella-esque story. It was announced earlier this year that the series is due out sometime in 2026, and when that announcement was made, it was also announced that the series was renewed for Seasons 5 and 6. If the show does not deviate from book order again (flip-flopping books 3 and 4 for the opposite seasons), Season 5 will adapt To Sir Phillip, With Love, and Season 6 will adapt When He Was Wicked. Book five features Eloise Bridgerton as the lead Bridgerton siblin,g and book six features Francesca Bridgerton as the lead. Series author Julia Quinn, already confirmed that things “could always change” again in terms of the series vs. book order. There have already been other editorial updates, changing Michael Stirling (who is opposite Francesca in When He Was Wicked) to Michaela Stirling in the show. Quinn has maintained asking fans for trust and patience with these changes as Shondaland continues to adapt her book series.
