Bridgerton fans are going wild as the first clip of Jonathan Bailey in Wicked has dropped online. Yes, try and remain calm.
The actor best known for playing the haughty Anthony Bridgerton in the smash hit period drama is tackling the role of Fiyero. For those who are not familiar with the story, he is a prince turned chieftain, and one-time love interest for Elphaba in the much-anticipated film adaption of Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
The production is the first time the story has made the jump from the stage to the big screen and already Johnathan is winning over fans left, right and centre and many are saying the same thing about the first look clip.
It begins with the news that the most eligible bachelor in all of Oz is coming to Shiz University. This sends a ripple of excitement through the school, prompting a scream from Glinda who is played by Arianna Grande.
It quickly transpires that Fiyero is somewhat of a playboy and at one point he gleefully announces: ‘I see that the responsibility to corrupt my fellow students falls to me.’
As Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) calls him out for pretending to be shallow and self-absorbed he hilariously corrects her saying: ‘eh, excuse me there is no pretence here, I happen to be genuinely self-absorbed and deeply shallow.’
Fans are already loving every second of the first look preview which has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. And with their beady eye, some have noticed one thing with Jonathan’s performance.
Some are drawing comparisons between his portrayal of Fiyero and Anthony Bridgerton.
One person highlighted how ‘He’s literally playing Anthony in Wicked.’
Another stated ‘Lord Bridgerton WYD (What you doing) here?’
‘Hoping there is more to him than just this bc it genuinely feels like Anthony Bridgerton and I’ve seen him in Fellow Travelers so I know he has range,’ another fan weighed in.
Others are adamant that he is the perfect Fiyero with one posting: ‘Stop, he literally brought Fiyero to life already. He did the character right.’
Wicked is set for release on 22 November
