Although Jon killed Daenerys in the finale episode of Game of Thrones, he himself had already proven by that point that death could be cheated under the right circumstances. Immediately after the episode, one fan of the show and its George R. R. Martin source material, A Song of Ice and Fire, created a vivid artistic impression of Daenerys resurrected.
Game of Thrones’ divisive ending was deeply dissatisfying for many longtime fans, with the treatment of Daenerys Targaryen serving as a prominent point of contention. She was notoriously killed off in the midst of sharing a kiss with Jon Snow, with her apparent descent into madness failing to convince most viewers that this unfortunate end was the fate she deserved.
As difficult as it would be for the writers and producers behind Game of Thrones to pull off, the resurrection of Daenerys would likely be welcomed by audiences the world over. A complex and morally ambiguous character, the self-proclaimed Queen of the Seven Kingdoms was nonetheless a fan-favorite until her dying day.
Fans Have Imagined What Daenerys’ Resurrection Would Look Like
In the artwork, Daenerys’ eyes are glowing red, and her face is stained with the blood which protruded from her nose and mouth when Jon Snow inflicted the wound that killed her. What’s more, her robe is tatty and torn down one sleeve, and she’s surrounded by three baby dragons reminiscent of her adoptive children, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.
This beautiful work of art, which was supposedly unfinished at the time Marlene Freimanis published it, is a highly realistic depiction of how we could expect to see Daenerys return in a Game of Thrones sequel. Whether such a return will actually happen, though, is another matter which isn’t for fans to decide.
What Are The Chances Daenerys Returns In A Game Of Thrones Sequel?
George R.R. Martin and HBO have both previously confirmed that there are Game of Thrones TV sequels currently in the works, including a spinoff series about Jon Snow. It could be this spinoff that provides the platform for Daenerys Targaryen to be resurrected. At the same time, actor Emilia Clarke is adamant that she won’t play Daenerys again.
