Tom Selleck is making moves — career moves, that is.
The 80-year-old actor still believes that he has what it takes to be the face of a successful TV series and is “turning his whole world upside down” to prove it to the industry after Blue Bloods was canceled in 2024, a source tells the National Enquirer.
“Blue Bloods went away before Tom was ready to say goodbye and it’s not a great feeling for him to see his former co-stars thrive on the cheaper spinoff,” a source says of Donnie Wahlberg’s police procedural, Boston Blue.
“To show the industry that he wants to stay in the game,” says the source, “Tom left his longtime agency representation,” as Deadline reported in early December. He’s also undergone a major physical transformation after being photographed outside a Thousand Oaks, California gym in July 2024 looking heavier than normal.
“All the junk food and lack of exercise had caught up to him,” an insider told the Enquirer at the time. “Over time, Tom cut back on the fast food. He’s been exercising and doing physical therapy.”
After all, “perception matters,” notes the source, “and Tom still wants to be perceived as a bankable leading man, no matter how old he is. He still totally believes in himself.”
The problem is, “Tom is still conducting business like it’s 1985, not 2025,” the source explains. “No matter how famous he is or how many millions of retirement-age fans he has, landing the lead role in a TV series is harder than ever and it’s a process that favors new faces, not people like Tom who have been very famous for decades and decades.”
Pals have warned the Magnum, P.I. star to be realistic and keep his expectations in check, the Enquirer can reveal, especially given the fierce competition he’ll face from other Hollywood hotshots.
