FBI season 7 undergoes a couple of cast changes, adding a new series regular while also losing a fan-favorite player. As part of Dick Wolf’s expansive small-screen franchise, the FBI series is the youngest out of all segments in the universe. Despite this, its flagship show, which debuted in 2018, was one of the most-watched shows of the 2023-2024 TV year. Because of this, any kind of change will be tricky to navigate, especially since the FBI has maintained its core cast intact for several years. FBI season 7 is about to change that.
Per Deadline, Lisette Olivera is joining the cast of FBI season 7 as Syd. Not much is known about the character thus far, but according to the report, she is a Behavior Analysis Unit agent who ends up being a member of Jubal Valentine’s team. Not long after this casting news came out, the same outlet revealed that long-time ensemble member Katherine Renee Kane is exiting the series as Special Agent Tiffany Wallace. She joined the show back in season 3, and despite her looming exit, Kane is expected to appear in at least one more episode.
How These Cast Changes Impact FBI Season 7
This Is The First Cast Shake-Up For FBI In A Few Years
Kane’s Wallace was the last series regular who joined FBI. Since her arrival, the police procedural has done a great job preserving its core cast of characters, which helped in establishing stability while other shows in Wolf Entertainment and NBC’s franchise experienced multiple big exits. Losing Wallace will leave a big void in Valentine’s team, but somehow, this seemed inevitable, considering her arc in FBI season 6. Wallace herself admitted that her character spiraled during the year as Wallace went after the Somalian terrorist Hakim Siran, who killed Trevor Hobbs.
From a storytelling standpoint, Wallace may need some time off to process such a harrowing year for her. This organically paves the way for her to be written out of the series. That also opens the door for Olivera’s Syd to enter. Considering the limited information about the character, it’s difficult to say how big of an impact she will have on the show. While the actor is already confirmed to be a series regular, her long-term fate is still dependent on the viewers’ reception of her and her role in FBI season 7.
While letting go of a fan-favorite character like Wallace will be difficult, at least she’s still coming back for FBI season 7. This way, the show can properly write her out instead of her departure playing off-screen. What’s unclear is whether Wallace will cross paths with Syd before the latter essentially takes her place in Valentine’s team.
