While the latest batch of episodes has concluded, all three shows in the FBI franchise will return in the fall. Season 6 kicked off with a devastating installment, as Hobbs met his end during a sting operation led by Katherine Renee Kane’s Tiffany Wallace. His death haunts the entire team, but with Hobbs’ killer still on the loose, Tiffany has found it especially difficult to move forward.
The season 6 finale sees her get justice for her fellow agent when she kills Hakim after he makes a move for his gun. The episode was framed to make viewers question whether Tiffany had cause to shoot, but Katherine Renee Kane says the moment was intended to raise the stakes. It’s quickly proven that she’s in the right, and Kane believes that this chapter of Tiffany’s story has come to a close.
Kane breaks down the finale with Screen Rant in a new interview and looks back at her favorite moments from FBI Season 6.
Kane Is Proud Of What Tiffany Has Accomplished In FBI Season 6
Screen Rant: Hakim returns in this episode. Obviously, it’s big for the whole team, but for Tiffany, especially. Did you know that storyline was going to come full circle by the end of the season?
Katherine Renee Kane: It was teased pretty early on. How it was gonna happen, I didn’t know until maybe a week and a half before we started shooting. Things sort of happen in real time for us too. I think their goal was to resolve this storyline by the end of the season.
Given what happened to Hobbs, this case takes a huge toll on Tiffany. She does want to see it through, but can you give some insight into her thoughts during this episode? Where is her head at?
Katherine Renee Kane: I think Tiffany has been taking real stock of her emotional and mental state herself. Her subordinates continually ask her, “Are you fit to be in the field?” And I think that’s a frustrating question to have come at you, but I also think that Tiffany has grown and is mature enough to understand that she has to take accountability for the work that has to be done to heal from trauma.
And I think she’s been doing that work, she’s been seeing a professional. But none of them can be expected to really put Hakim behind them because it is their job to take criminals and to put them in jail and to bring them to justice. So, it’s a funny balancing act for her to put the trauma of losing her friend behind but to also keep in the forefront her ultimate duty, which is to find Hakim and to stop him.
On that same note, we see Tiffany step into a leadership role this season as she works on becoming more assertive. How do you feel about her progress?
Katherine Renee Kane: I’m really proud of Tiffany. I’m really happy to have been able to try to peel back all of the layers of her in this saga. I think she didn’t realize the things that she needed to work on when she started this. When Jubal first said, “We want you to step into a leadership role,” I think she was like, “Okay, cool,” and that’s it. But then to come up against the challenges that are inherent when you take a leadership role, I think definitely put her into a place of self-reflection that made her realize all the things that needed to evolve in her. I think she’s up for the challenge.
Tiffany Is Not Questioning Her Integrity As An Agent After The FBI Season 6 Finale
Tiffany is the one who ends up killing Hakim. There’s initially some question about how it happened, but would you say that storyline is closed?
Katherine Renee Kane: I believe that the writers are closing that chapter from what I’ve grasped of it. It’s possible that it could come up in some sense, but I don’t think Tiffany is in any sort of question about her motives or her integrity as an agent. I think it was a moment to really raise the stakes as far as how her colleagues see her because it’s been an overarching theme in this arc, that everyone’s sort of worried about what Tiffany is doing, what is motivating her, and if she is making good decisions. I feel very solidly that this chapter is closed for her.
Tiffany also gets to tell Hobb’s wife that his killer is gone. Do you think that moment gave Tiffany a sense of justice?
Katherine Renee Kane: Absolutely. I think she felt vindicated to be able to come back to his widow and say, “We each closed this chapter.” And I think it was important for her to make sure that Hobbs’ wife knows this was not a light thing. It’s interesting to think about how often this happens for people who are first responders or who work in the frontlines of war and things like that.
Sometimes, when you lose someone, I can imagine that it feels like, “Does anybody even care?” I think that was important for Tiffany to let her know that I care. This is not a light thing to me, that I was the one heading this undercover mission when your husband died. And so to come back and say we caught him is sort of her saying, “I’m sorry,” and, “I hope you can forgive me.”
Kane Would Like To See Tiffany Open Up More In Future FBI Seasons
We’ve officially reached the end of FBI season 6. What are your thoughts looking back on this season? Do you have a favorite episode or scene?
Katherine Renee Kane: I have a lot of scenes that I really love. But I’ll say one scene that was really fun for me to film as Tiffany was the episode where we’re in the club, and OA finds out that his girlfriend is friends with a girl who deals drugs. But it was really fun for me to play undercover with Tiffany in that episode. And funny enough, the person who I was doing the scene with was an old schoolmate of mine. So it was kind of cool to do scenes with her. It’s always fun for me to see the agents in a different light and in a different milieu with a different swagger.
What about Tiffany’s personal life? Is there anything you would like to see on that front?
Katherine Renee Kane: I would love to. I’m hesitant to say that I want her to have this or that outcome because I want all the things to feel organic to who she is and what we built. But I think it would be great to see Tiffany at ease more, to be able to be open and have more levity and have close relationships and to have a confidant. I would love to see her in that light, to come into a little bit more softness while still being the bad*ss agent that she is.
Lastly, are there any tidbits about season 7 that you’re allowed to share?
Katherine Renee Kane: I wish. I probably wouldn’t share them, but I don’t have them. [Laughs]
