The world is ready to meet Christian Grey.
The anticipation for Fifty Shades of Grey is heating up.
Pre-sales for the highly-publicized film adaptation of E.L. James’ steamy tale indicate that it is now the fastest-selling R movie ever in the 15-year history of Fandango, The Hollywood Reporter says. Wow.
Fifty Shades, which stars Jamie Dornan as the smoldering, S&M-loving playboy millionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as timid literature student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) who embark on an intense romance, has outpaced previous R-rated hot sellers, including Sex and the City 2, The Hangover’s final two installments and Gone Girl.
It’s also the fastest-selling non-sequel film since 2012’s The Hunger Games, which still holds the title. Pretty impressive for a movie — one of the year’s most anticipated — that barely dodged the restrictive NC-17 rating.
Even before there was any footage, fans of James’ best-selling novels have been salivating for any morsel of information. From the official soundtrack lineup to the many revealing interviews Dornan has conducted discussing everything from sex dungeons, living up to the hype and going full-frontal, it’s become painstakingly clear audiences are more than ready for Feb. 13 to roll around.
And if the record-setting, super-sexy trailer is any indication of the pop-culture phenomenon’s forthcoming success, we may be in for a massive Fifty Shades debut weekend.
