Fire Country Boss Teases More Tragic Deaths After Killing Off [Spoiler]: ‘No One Is Safe’
Bode’s life is about to drastically change thanks to the events of Season 2’s “This Storm Will Pass.” Why did leave Cara Fire Country? We have all the information below.
CBS’ Fire Country is a drama series centered on firefighters and inmates at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (also known as Cal Fire). It stars Max Thieriot as Bode Donovan, a young convict with a troubled past who joins the inmate firefighter program to redeem himself and shorten his prison sentence. Bode is assigned to his hometown in Northern California, where he must work alongside his former friends and other inmates as they fight wild fires that plague the region. Thieriot co-created the show based off of his own experience growing up in fire country.
Cara (played by Sabina Gadecki) was an ER nurse and Bode’s high school girlfriend. She came back to Edgewater to help her mom move, but ended up staying in town and began a relationship with Jake Crawford (Jordan Calloway). Viewers later learned that Cara got pregnant when she was 19 years old and her mom kept it a secret by claiming the baby as her own. By the beginning of the second season, Cara had admitted that Genevieve was actually her biological daughter and that Bode might potentially be the father.
During the fifth episode of Season 2, Cara’s storyline came to a head with a dramatic twist that no one saw coming, Keep reading to see why Cara left Fire Country and what happened to Sabina Gadecki’s character.
Why did Cara leave Fire Country?
Why did Cara on Fire Country? Cara was tragically killed off during the Season 2 episode “This Storm Will Pass.” The previous episode ended on a cliffhanger, with Bode, Cara and new paramedic Diego (Rafael de la Fuenta) getting into an ambulance accident. Bode was being transported to the hospital to have some injuries checked out and Cara tagged along, but a tree fell into the road and caused the ambulance to crash.
Episode 5 picked up right where the show left off and viewers learned that Cara had been impaled by a metal rod. Bode and Diego tended to her injuries as best they could while they waited for help to arrive, but the rest of the Cal Fire crew was dealing with a deadly fire tornado and couldn’t get there in time. Cara ended up suffering an epidural hematoma and died before she could reach the hospital. Her last wish was for Bode to look after Genevieve in her absence.
It is still unclear if Bode is Genevieve’s father, but Thieriot hinted that Cara’s death will have “a big ripple effect.” In an interview with Us Weekly, the show’s creator explained that Cara was killed off for creative reasons. “In this storytelling world, it’s all about finding things that are really going to resonate with the audience and they’re going to leave an impact,” he said. “We knew ultimately that it would be a really impactful thing and would really have a major outward spiral for the rest of the characters and [a] big ripple effect.”
With Cara now gone, Bode will have to fulfill the promise he made to take care of Genevieve — whether she is or isn’t his daughter — and get to know her more, which is something he had already been “fighting for and pushing for.” Additionally, Calloway’s Jake will also be impacted by Cara’s death. “Jake now obviously has basically his heart ripped out of his chest. So there’s a lot going on,” Thieiot said.
He teased: “We got five episodes to go, and it’s certainly crazy. It’s a crazy, crazy finish.”
As for if there will be even more deaths this season, showrunner Tia Napolitano told the outlet that “no one is safe.” She explained: “I think what we learned with Cara is we held her very close before — unfortunately — she died. So when we do have a death on our show, we want it to mean something emotionally … Unfortunately, that means you probably have to love that person very much before their death. So no one is safe is the short answer.”
Fire Country Season 2 airs on CBS on Fridays at 9 p.m. EST. New episodes are available to stream on Paramount+ the next day.
