First Marriage Fallout: How Georgie & Mandy’s Spinoff Makes Meemaw’s Big Bang Cameo Even Stranger

Connie’s presence in all the TV shows in the TBBT universe makes her appearance in The Big Bang Theory season 9, episode 14 slightly bizarre in light of what Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 showed. Taking place right after Young Sheldon’s ending, First Marriage’s setting guaranteed that the Coopers and Meemaw specifically would have appeared in the Young Sheldon spinoff, due to their having just gone through George Sr.’s heartbreaking death and Connie’s immense help when Georgie and Mandy were expecting CeeCee. This gave Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 the chance to partially continue Connie’s story.

Despite Young Sheldon season 7 punishing Connie’s illegal pursuits through her arrest, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 revealed she didn’t stay away from them much longer, introducing her bookie business in season 1, episode 14. Connie’s certainty about being a bookie never wavered in First Marriage season 1, no matter how it caused problems with the McAllisters and could even implicate Mandy, who never stopped being fascinated by her attitude. While Connie’s behavior already poses a question in light of the very different character Meemaw was in The Big Bang Theory, her relationship with Dale presents another one.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Showed Just How In Love Dale Is With Meemaw
Dale’s Reaction To Their Breakup Showed Him Heartbroken In First Marriage Episode 14

Meemaw's Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Heartbreak Makes Her The Big Bang Theory Appearance More Peculiar
Connie revealing her bookie business to Mandy in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1, episode 14 started the chain of events that led to everybody knowing about it, including Dale, who was already imagining something of the sort after he noticed her “acting squirrelly” and being extremely nice to him. The fight that followed forced Connie and Dale to break up, causing even more problems, as it led to the McAllisters learning about Connie’s sportsbook and figuring out Mandy’s involvement.

One thing that Meemaw’s storyline in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1, episode 14 highlighted was how hopelessly in love Dale was with Connie. Indeed, not only did he take the first chance he got to go to the McAllisters and talk about the breakup, essentially revealing how much he missed Connie, but Dale also showed up at Connie’s motel to check on her. Dale’s visit quickly turned into an admission of love and that he missed Connie, admitting how he just wanted her back, not caring whether she ran a book, robbed banks or was a serial killer.

Dale Commitment To Meemaw Makes Her Relationship Status In The Big Bang Theory More Curious
Meemaw Only Mentions Being Married To Pop-Pop In Her TBBT Appearance

Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage never shied away from showing Connie and Dale’s bickering matches, with the latest appearing in First Marriage season 1, episode 19, when Dale openly told Audrey he had cautioned Connie against accepting Jim’s bet. While Dale and Connie didn’t seem particularly affectionate most of the time, they did love one another, and were also there for each other through the good and the bad, considering how Dale welcomed Connie to his place after hers was destroyed by the tornado.

Connie and Dale’s relationship beginning in Young Sheldon season 3 meant Sheldon had known Dale for a long time, making the absence of even a general acknowledgement of him in The Big Bang Theory feel particularly odd.

Dale’s confession in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1, episode 14 proved once again his commitment to Meemaw, and their relationship already having gone on for so long makes it unlikely they would break up for good. However, no mention of Dale or a partner when Meemaw visited Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory season 9, episode 14 makes such an omission particularly curious, as not only Young Sheldon had shown that Sheldon knew Dale, but Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 also reiterated how stable Dale and Connie’s relationship continued to be.

Why Dale Never Appeared In The Big Bang Theory
Dale Was Introduced In Young Sheldon, Making A Big Bang Theory Appearance Unlikely

One obvious reason for Dale missing from The Big Bang Theory isn’t directly connected to his and Connie’s relationship and story, but has everything to do with Meemaw appearing in The Big Bang Theory season 9, one year and a half before Young Sheldon even premiered, and several more before Dale’s first appearance on the TBBT prequel. Young Sheldon being The Big Bang Theory’s prequel guaranteed that some characters and stories it introduced couldn’t have been part of the original series, as that quite simply was created before.

This could be due to several reasons, ranging from heartbreaking, like if Dale died, to more practical, for example, Dale wouldn’t need to be mentioned as Connie was in Pasadena on business, to size Amy up.
