The audience will soon get to see the other side of the ton as the season explores the life of these who live downstairs as well as upstairs.
Bridgerton fans are in for a treat today as more details and sneak preview images are released about season 4. This time, it’s the turn of second son Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) as he meets his match in Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) in a Cinderella-style story which sees her start the season as a maid to her stepmother. And while Sophie and her family are a new addition to the ton, fans will be excited to have confirmation today that favorite characters Kate Bridgerton (Simone Ashley) and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) will return for season 4 after having their baby.
Showrunner Jess Brownell told an audience at a Season of Love event on Valentine’s Day in London today that this adaptation would be one of the most faithful to the books written by Julia Quinn. She confirmed that a key moment in Quinn’s book about Benedict, Offer from a Gentleman, the masquerade ball, will feature prominently at the opening of the show’s fourth chapter.
This season will also explore for the first time the lives of those serving the wealthy families of the ton and the forbidden element of finding love across the class divide. This upstairs-downstairs theme is something that Brownell and cast-members Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha said they were excited for the show to convey during a panel discussion today. Ha said she thought it would bring a “fresh energy.” Thompson said it was wonderful to get to see more of the lives of characters who have been in Bridgerton for a long time as household staff. He also highlighted the shift audiences will see in the younger Bridgerton siblings Hyacinth and Gregory as they grow from children into young adulthood.
