Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel), Odeya Rush (The Giver) and Haley Joel Osment (Entourage) have signed on to star in Jake Goldberger‘s coming-of-age film Holding Patterns.
The dramatic comedy centers on twentysomething Charlie Brenner (Highmore), who is still living at home with his mother and stepfather. Dealing with a lack of structure and motivation, Charlie has put all his eggs in one basket: Amber (Rush), the girl who works at his local coffee shop. The problem is, Amber has a serious boyfriend. As Amber and Charlie become closer, the line between friendship and intimacy is blurred, and the situation forces both of them to examine where they are in their lives. Gary Moore (The Bill Collector) will play the stepfather.
Goldberger also wrote the screenplay.
Holding Patterns, which is currently shooting in Mobile, Ala., also stars Rita Volk (Faking It), Jake Abel (Percy Jackson series) and Taylor John Smith (Insidious: Chapter 3).
The film is produced by Alex Ginzburg and Tony Lee for Let It Play and Jim Young for Animus Films.
“I could not be more excited about the cast we’ve been able to put together,” Goldberger said. “Watching it come to life with these incredible actors is nothing less than a dream come true.”
Highmore stars as a young Norman Bates in A&E’s critically acclaimed series Bates Motel and will next be seen in the upcoming miniseries Close to the Enemy. Odeya Rush will co-star in Sony’s Goosebumps this fall. Osment, whose breakout role was in The Sixth Sense, recently appeared in IFC’s The Spoils Before Dying and The Spoils of Babylon.
Goldberger made his feature directing debut with Don McKay, a dark comic thriller starring Thomas Haden Church, Elisabeth Shue and Melissa Leo. His second feature was Life of a King, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Dennis Haysbert and Lisa Gay Hamilton.
Osment and Goldberger are repped by APA. Osment is additionally handed by MGMT Entertainment and Edelstein, Laird and Sobel. Goldberger is also represented by Industry Entertainment.
Highmore is handled by UTA. Rush is represented by CAA.
