That is his greatest pride now that this journey is about to end, and he hopes that it will not be the last time that a person with autism leads a television series. “Obviously we tell the story of a boy who can be a starting point for people and for representation, that would be wonderful.”
Playing a doctor who lives with the autism spectrum, but despite the obstacles that his condition represents, he manages to work with the team of the surgery department at the hospital San José St. Bonaventure Hospital and save lives, allowed him to Highmore see the importance of developing plots like this.
“There is an absolute need to tell as many stories as possible that show different perspectives,” the actor explains in an interview with The Sun of Mexico.

“The last seven years have been tumultuous on many levels around the world. Because of local events in particular countries, with the global pandemic, it’s been nice to bring that kind of message back,” he said, stressing that from the beginning of the series that was what they wanted to convey.”
“From the beginning David Shore and we wanted it to be more than just a series, there was something deeper and more important in what we were doing. It’s not really up to me to say whether we achieved that or not, but it was our goal.”
