From Chicago P.D. to the Wilderness: Tracy Spiridakos Leads Gritty New USA Crime Series

Actor Tracy Spiridakos has booked her first major role since leaving Chicago P.D. last year. The actor played fan-favorite character Detective Hailey Upton across the One Chicago franchise for seven years.

According to Deadline, Spiridakos has been cast as the titular lead of the new USA Network series Anna Pigeon, based on the novel series of the same name by Nevada Barr. The forthcoming crime series will follow the titular former city slicker who becomes a park ranger after a devastating loss changed the trajectory of her life forever. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way.

Anna Pigeon has tapped Morwyn Brebner to serve as showrunner and Lea Thompson to direct. Both are also attached as executive producers. The crime drama will be the second new series from the USA Network, following the legal drama The Rainmaker, which stars John Slattery and is based on John Grisham’s eponymous 1995 novel. The two series are part of USA Network’s planned relaunch of original scripted content, which was partially brought on by one of its older shows, Suits (2011-19), finding success on streaming.

Where Have You Seen Tracy Spiridakos Before?

Spiridakos is best known for playing Hailey Upton on NBC’s Chicago P.D. After recurring in the fourth season, she was promoted to a series regular for Seasons 5 through 11. She also appeared in P.D.’s sister series Chicago Fire and Chicago Med as well as FBI. When she exited the franchise in 2024, the actor told Deadline, “I love this group of people, everybody from cast and crew, producers, everybody. This was a really hard decision to make. I’ve been on the show for 7 1/2 years. So, I was curious about what else was out there and wanted to switch it up. That was kind of it, but it was hard. It was very bittersweet and emotional.”

Spiridakos’ other notable screen credits include the series regular roles of Becky Richards in the short-lived teen comedy series Majority Rules! (2009-10) and Charlie Matheson in the NBC post-apocalyptic series Revolution (2012-14). She has also appeared in a recurring capacity on fan-favorite shows like Syfy’s Being Human, A&E’s Bates Motel, and CBS’ MacGyver.

Chicago P.D. Sets Season 13 Premiere Date

As for Spiridakos’ old stomping ground, Chicago P.D. will return for its thirteenth season on Oct. 1. Most of the show’s main cast are slated to return for the new season, with the sole exception of Toya Turner, who will not be returning as Kiana Cook. Instead, Arienne Mandi has been cast to fill the void left by Turner’s departure, with the actor set to play Naomi Kerr, described as a “former soldier and military contractor who is said to thrive in dangerous situations.”
