From Family Sitcom to Public Scandal: The Explosive Story Behind Roseanne cl01

TV SHOCKER: Roseanne Barr Accuses Co-Star of “Destroying My Life” With One Tweet

The American entertainment industry was left stunned when the hit sitcom Roseanne was suddenly cancelled. But what shocked audiences even more was the explosive blame game between the show’s star Roseanne Barr and her longtime co-star Sara Gilbert.

The controversy began when Barr posted a highly offensive tweet targeting Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to Barack Obama. Within hours, social media exploded with outrage. Facing intense public backlash, the television network ABC made a swift and dramatic decision: cancel the iconic sitcom immediately.

At first, Barr attempted to calm the storm by blaming the sleeping medication Ambien, claiming it made her do “weird things” she normally wouldn’t do. But the story didn’t end there.

In a bombshell interview, Barr shifted the blame to someone else—her own co-star. She accused Sara Gilbert, who played her daughter Darlene in the series, of triggering the show’s downfall with a single tweet.

At the height of the scandal, Gilbert publicly condemned Barr’s comments, calling them “abhorrent” and stressing that they did not represent the beliefs of the cast or crew. Her message quickly spread across social media, adding even more pressure on the show.

Barr later expressed deep anger over the tweet, claiming it was the moment everything collapsed.
“She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet,” Barr said bitterly.

However, Gilbert responded in a very different tone. Speaking to The Washington Post, she said she was deeply disappointed and heartbroken about the end of the original show, but emphasized that Barr would always remain family to her.

Reports also revealed that Barr’s own family had long been worried about her controversial activity on social media. Her son, Buck Thomas, even changed her Twitter password at one point in an attempt to prevent potential trouble. Eventually, after repeated requests from Barr, he gave the password back.

And perhaps Barr herself understands her online reputation. In the same interview, she openly admitted:
“I admit it. I’m a troll. I’m the queen of the f—ing trolls.”

Once a beloved family sitcom, Roseanne has now become the center of one of the biggest television scandals in recent American entertainment history. And the question that still lingers is: was this simply a social media mistake—or a downfall caused by the power of a single tweet?
