The first-look images of Stephen Colbert in Elsbeth season 3 have been revealed. Despite the many viral moments on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and the series’ long-running success, CBS announced that it was being canceled, and will come to an end in May 2026.
Deadline has now released the first-look images that reveal Colbert smiling at Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) and interacting with other key characters in the season 3 premiere. He is also seen interviewing Sheryl Jacobs (Marcia DeBonis), as well as laughing and sharing a drink with another guest star character, Laurel Hammond-Muntz (Amy Sedaris).
Another recognizable face from late-night television, Andy Richter, also makes an appearance in the images, where he will be playing the role of Micky Muntz. The final image showcases Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce), and Pierce helped Colbert land the role. Check out the images below:
What This Means For Elsbeth
Colbert playing a fictional late-night TV host was always going to be casting that drew a significant amount of attention, but that has only been amplified after The Late Show’s cancellation. Colbert’s involvement could help bring record-setting viewership to Elsbeth when the season 3 premiere airs on CBS on October 12.
The episode, which is titled “Yes, And…”, involves a conflict between Colbert’s character, his head writer, Laurel (Sedaris), and her husband, Mickey (Richter). Scotty and Laurel appear to be getting along well in the images, but that will not last given the tensions that arise between them in the world of late-night comedy.
The image of Scotty interviewing Sheryl almost looks like it could have been taken from an episode of The Late Show, and Colbert is clearly at home in the role. Along with Richter, Sedaris, and Tony Award-winner Lindsay Mendez guest-starring as a police officer and aspiring comedian, Elsbeth season 3 will be getting off to a star-studded start.
Our Take On Elsbeth Season 3’s First-Look Images
After the disappointment of Elsbeth being snubbed by the Emmys, it is exciting to see how season 3 will immediately make a splash. Plenty of viewers, including those who don’t watch the show regularly, will likely tune in for Colbert, and the premiere episode could help hook audiences for the rest of the season.
