From Mentor to Memory? Amanda’s Fate May Open the Door to Will Trent’s Most Dangerous Villain Yet

Fans might have to say goodbye to a major character in the Will Trent season 4 premiere, and whoever replaces them could take on a villainous role the show has never had. The police procedural has never featured a significant death before. Sure, characters have died (like Cricket in the Will Trent season 2 premiere), but the main cast has remained intact.

Unfortunately, when Will Trent returns with season 4, the ABC TV show’s track record of no big deaths could be broken. Out of the five main characters in Will Trent, excluding Betty, two of them are in danger in the wake of the season 3 finale. However, one is certainly more likely to die, given the extent of their injuries.

Why Amanda Might Die In The Will Trent Season 4 Premiere

Season 3 Ended With Amanda In A Coma

During the Will Trent season 3 finale, Amanda and Angie took on terrorists. While they were mostly successful in taking them down, one slipped past them and shot Amanda in the chest. She was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Afterward, the doctors informed the other characters that the next 48 hours would be critical for Amanda’s condition.

Following the debut of the Will Trent season 3 finale, co-showrunners Daniel T. Thomsen and Liz Heldens spoke with TVLine about the hour’s events and what’s to come in season 4. They also addressed how worried fans should be about Amanda and Ormewood (who had a seizure at the episode’s end). Heldens said:

“I think that we should be concerned for those characters.”

Based on Heldens’ comments and Amanda’s status, it’s safe to say that Will Trent season 4 could easily begin with her death. She got shot in the chest, after all. It would take a miracle for her to pull through. Of course, stranger things have happened, but fans should prepare themselves for Amanda’s death in Will Trent season 4.

The GBI Would Need To Replace Amanda, & Her Successor Could Be A Villain

Will Trent Has Never Had A Big Bad

If Amanda doesn’t survive, Will Trent and the GBI would need to find her replacement. And her successor as the GBI’s Deputy Director could be the very opposite of Amanda, aka a villain. Perhaps her replacement is a corrupt cop, which would tie the story back to the show’s beginning and create a new role for the series —a Big Bad.

As some may recall, Will Trent began with everyone hating Will because he had exposed a bunch of bad law enforcement officers, including Faith’s mother. So, there is no one better for the job (of taking down a corrupt cop) than Will. It wouldn’t be easy, though, given the power that comes with being the GBI’s Deputy Director.

Consequently, Amanda’s hypothetical nefarious replacement could be the ABC crime drama’s first Big Bad. It could take all season for Will and co. to defeat them. However, this theory is moot if Amanda lives. If she doesn’t, though, Will Trent season 4 has the opportunity to explore a story the series has never tackled before.
