General Hospital alum Sofia Mattsson, who played Sasha Gilmore from 2018-25, is joining the cast of Days of Our Lives! The big news was revealed in former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane’s new daytime-centric newsletter, SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish.
The Comeback Trail
In the newsletter, Sloane shared a photo of Mattsson posing outside of her new dressing room digs at the DAYS studio. As the show tapes quite far in advance, the actress is not expected to make her Salem debut until sometime early in 2027, Sloane noted. For now, it appears that the show is keeping the identity of Mattsson’s new character under wraps.
The Swedish-born actress hit the Port Charles scene over eight years ago when she was cast on GH as a beautiful opportunist who Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) paid to pose as Nina Reeves’s (then-Michelle Stafford) long-lost daughter. After a failed relationship with Michael Corinthos (then-Chad Duell), Sasha found love with Brando Corbin and the two tied the knot — but tragedy followed, first when the couple’s newborn son, Liam, passed away, then when Brando was brutally murdered by Heather Webber (Alley Mills). Sasha had begun to move forward with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) when their romance ground to a halt with the discovery that they were first cousins, coinciding with the reveal that Sasha was the secret daughter of Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers).
In 2025, Sasha — who had also overcome drug addiction and the manipulations of Brando’s greedy mother, Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs) — gave birth to a baby girl, Daisy, whose father is Michael (Rory Gibson). Fearing for her daughter’s safety after an unstable Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) made it look like someone might be targeting the newborn, Sasha decided to move overseas with Daisy and exited the canvas on July 18.
At the time, Mattsson told TV Insider, “I’ve had such a great time, but I’m also excited for a new chapter and to continue my acting journey in new projects.” She described her last day on set after her seven-year run as “emotional for sure. Cleaning out my room and knowing that I wouldn’t see all my friends there like usual every other day felt sad. But everyone was so supportive and excited for me.”
In a message written to her fans on Instagram after her last episode aired, Mattsson wrote, “Yes, it’s true, Sasha Gilmore has left Port Charles! (For now ) General Hospital has become my second home these past years and I am so grateful for my time there. And I feel so lucky to have experienced the love and support all the wonderful GH fans have to give – you guys truly are THE BEST!
I hope Sasha will make her way back to her friends and family, but for now it’s time for her to take a break from all the drama, and for me to continue my acting journey in some new exciting projects!
