From Purple Hearts to Royal Hearts: Sofia Carson & Queen Charlotte Star Corey Mylchreest Fall in Love in My Oxford Year

Emily’s in Paris, Anna’s in London, and she’s about to have the time of her life. My Oxford Year brings together two of Netflix’s most romantic couples, Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest, as they embark on their next romantic adventure. Carson plays Anna, an ambitious young American woman who goes to Oxford University to pursue her childhood dream.

Anna’s life is on the path she’s been trying to follow, until she meets a charming and intelligent Londoner, Jamie, who knocks her off her path and changes both their lives. Iain Morris directed My Oxford Year from a screenplay by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne. The events of the film are based on the novel of the same name by Julia Whelan, adapted from Burnett’s original screenplay. Netflix has released a first look at the film, which debuts on the platform on August 1, showing Carson during her year at Oxford and the man she meets.

“Our story is a film that, frame by frame, reaffirms the belief that life is too short not to love. Not to have fun. And I hope that truth resonates in the hearts of anyone who watches our film,” Carson told TUDUM about what she hopes audiences will take away from My Oxford Year. “You can expect a little bit of laughter, a lot of love, maybe a little sadness, a few surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all their wonderful friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey,” Mylchreest told the channel.

Where You Might Have Watched Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest’s ‘My Oxford Year’ Before

Those who regularly watch Netflix movies and TV shows may have seen Carson and Mylchreest on the platform before. Carson starred in the 2022 romance Purple Hearts alongside Nicholas Galitizne and has recently starred in Carry On and The Life List, all for Netflix. Mylchreest is best known for his role as King George in the Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte. His work on the show earned him a My Oxford Year award. “I watched Queen Charlotte and I was so in awe of Corey. He’s such a great actor. When it came time to cast Jamie, I always knew it was going to be Corey,” said Carson, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. She added:

“As soon as he walked into the room for our chemistry reading in London, Anna and Jamie came alive. Instantly. Corey was truly a companion in this experience… And together, we were dedicated to exploring Anna and Jamie’s love story, to bringing it to life with all our heart.”

My Oxford Year will premiere on Netflix on August 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and to watch Carson’s recent film on the platform.
