From Season 2 Royalty to Spinoff Rejection: What Happened to Kate and Anthony? dt01

Fans hoping for a Kate and Anthony-centered spinoff may want to temper expectations. According to Bridgerton author Julia Quinn, there are currently no plans to extend their story beyond their appearances on Bridgerton itself.

Speaking to Us Weekly in an interview published on February 10, Quinn addressed speculation about a potential offshoot focused on the fan-favorite couple, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley. While she confirmed that the characters do return later in season 4, a standalone series is not on the table.

“I’m like, ‘Can we just spin off with them in India?’” Quinn said. “Yeah, that’s not going to happen, I’m afraid. Not after we had Wicked and all this stuff. I think they’re not going to commit to a TV show.”

Quinn’s comments point less to creative reluctance and more to practical limitations—namely, the increasingly packed schedules of the actors involved. Addressing Bailey and Ashley’s absence from the first half of season 4, she emphasized that the door remains open for future appearances, even if a spinoff is unrealistic.

“They come back—they definitely come back,” Quinn said. “People have to remember that Jonathan Bailey is pretty busy, and Simone Ashley has an incredible career. I’m just so grateful that the actors are making time to do this.”

She added that as Bridgerton continues, coordinating long-term commitments becomes harder across the ensemble. “With all the actors’ schedules, it’s just impossible to get them there for a complete season,” Quinn explained. “The scenes that they are in are absolutely delightful so I’m thrilled. I think Kate and Anthony fans will be thrilled when they see them.”

Anthony and Kate’s romance anchored season 2 of the Netflix series, which debuted in 2022, and the couple has since remained a touchstone for the franchise—even as the show shifts its focus to new siblings and storylines.
