‘Fuller House’ premiere: 5 things we learned about the Netflix spinoff

1. Kimmy Gibbler has secrets

2. Nostalgia runs (maybe too) deep

Producers considered updates to the show, including having Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier) make the kids laugh with new voices– maybe Spongebob?– instead of his character’s classic Bullwinkle and Popeye impressions. Candace Cameron Bure, whose D.J. was the big sister on Full and is a single mother on Fuller (she marries into the Fuller last name, hence the show title), said that the actors were so eager to revisit their characters’ famous catchphrases (hers was “Oh mylanta!”) that they ended up adding lines like “Have mercy!” and “How rude!” into scenes where they weren’t even written in the script.

4. They acknowledge Michelle’s absence

In episode 1 of the 13-episode series, the issue of the missing Michelle (the youngest sister played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who both opted not to join the show) is addressed in a funny and not-at-all-subtle way. “We’re still hoping (the Olsens) will come back and play with us” on future Fuller House episodes, said series creator Jeff Franklin.
