Fuller House Reveals What Happened To Aunt Becky After Lori Loughlin’s Exit
Here’s how Fuller House’s series finale addressed the absence of Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin). After five seasons, Netlfix’s Full House sequel series wrapped up with a happy ending for DJ Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron-Bure) and Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), alongside their long-time friend, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber). Collectively known as the She-Wolf Pack, the girls held a triple wedding ceremony which was attended by their closest family and friends, but some notable characters were missing during the event, including Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis.
Last year, news broke out that Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, reportedly paid half a million dollars to get their two kids into USC either by faking athletic records or cheating their SAT scores, effectively making them central figures in the national college admission scandal. Not long after that, the actress was dropped from her TV gigs with Hallmark firing her from When Calls the Heart, followed by Netflix who announced that she won’t be back for the final season Fuller House. As of now, she’s still waiting for her sentencing.
So, when the first nine episodes of Fuller House season 5 was released in December, fans weren’t surprised that Becky was nowhere to be found. While her, husband Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) regularly visited DJ, there was never a mention of her whereabouts. This was especially odd since season 5 ended with the couple moving back to Bay Area after Becky and Danny (Bob Saget) reclaimed their old jobs as anchors of Wake Up, San Francisco. Fuller House got away with dancing around the topic in the first half of Fuller House season 5, but with a big family event coming up in its final episodes, Fuller House didn’t have any choice but to address her absence properly. The in-universe reason for Becky’s absence is that she was simply gone.
Instead of prolonging the situation and giving fans false hope that Loughlin might surprisingly make an appearance during the wedding, Fuller House didn’t wait that long to address the situation. During one of Jesse’s visits to the Tanner-Fuller household, he was having issues with a biting incident with their adopted daughter, Pamela, at school. Always the brusque, Jesse considered ways on how to find who bit his kid at school for revenge, but before he could make any drastic decisions, DJ stopped him on his tracks and suggested that it might be best to consult Becky about the matter.
It turns out, however, that Becky is out of town and Jesse doesn’t want to bother her with the issue. “Becky is in Nebraska helping out with her mother. I don’t want to bother her with a tiny little thing like that,” he said. They never delved into specific details about her trip back home, and perhaps it’s for the better since no one wanted to dwell longer on her absence. As such, the matter was never brought up again until the end of the series. In hindsight, it worked for the better that Fuller House was ending when Loughlin’s firing happened. This way, they didn’t have to fully write her out of the story which would’ve been sad for Full House fans.
It’s worth noting that Loughlin wasn’t the only original Full House cast member absent in the Fuller House season 5. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who alternately played Michelle in the ’80s/’90s family sitcom, never appeared in the spinoff’s run. However, unlike Loughlin, the twins decided not to reprise their role as the youngest Tanner sister as they’ve fully moved on from acting and are now successful fashion moguls.
