This Is Not a Drill: Gabby Dawson Is Coming Back to ‘Chicago Fire’
Gabby Dawson is back in Chicago!
Chicago Fire fans were devastated when actress Monica Raymund left the NBC drama after portraying Dawson for six seasons. As one of the original cast members, she had been on the series since 2012 and was one-half of viewers’ favorite couple (sorry, Stellaride)—but her character’s relationship with Matt Casey ended with her departure.”It has been an honor to play Dawson on Chicago Fire and one of the most meaningful experiences of my life,” Monica wrote in a letter to fans in 2018. “I am so thankful for the journey and especially to all of you for watching, but I have made the decision that it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in life. I’ll always be proud to have played a fierce paramedic with such an incredible cast and crew.”
Now, Entertainment Weekly reports that Monica is returning as Dawson for the show’s season 8 winter finale, which airs on November 20.
When fans last saw Dawson in the season 7 premiere, she had returned from Puerto Rico and asked her then-husband to leave Chicago and move to the island to be with her. He declined, and the longtime couple later amicably filed for divorce.
In the upcoming episode, titled “Best Friend Magic,” Dawson returns to Chicago on business for her hurricane relief organization. She will also find time to stop by Firehouse 51 to visit her former co-workers—including Casey.
“Fans can expect sparks to fly from the Dawson and Casey reunion,” Monica told EW. “Dawson and Casey will always have an unbreakable bond, and their love is a special love that I think will forever stay alive. The fans don’t want to miss this episode—we get to see Dawson and Casey’s love in a new light.”
It’s still unclear what her return means for Dawsey but, naturally, everyone is freaking out.
Some people are thrilled, saying it will be “awesome” to have Dawson back. What do you think about Dawson coming back? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
